Sub Woofer ConnectionTbone Steak

HI: I was wondering about connections for a Sub Woofer? I have a B&K ST 140 Power amp, and a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitors. I now need to fill in the bottom end. How do you hook up a Powered Sub Woofer? I looked at one, and it seems that you go from your amp to the sub, and then from the sub to your speakers. Doesn't the extra step degrade the signal some what? Can you Bi-Wire from the amp, with one set of wires to the sub, and another set to the speakers?
Does any one have any recomendations on a good sub for mainly music under $500.00 Canadian. The David D-Box 300 at Costco for $299.00 seems like a great deal, and it has excellent reveiws from this site.
Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since you have a separate power amp. I would recommend that you run a line level signal from your pre-amp to your powered sub inputs. If needed you can get Y-Adapters to give you a pair of outputs from the pre. I would also recommend you use a pair of ACI's passive high-pass filters which you insert in the RCA inputs of your ST140. This is much better than the filters in most subs. ACI has the passive filters and Y - adapters. Also check out their Quake sub. A great piece with lots of great reviews at this site.

Tbone,

Check out the Boston Acoustic PV 600. It'll be in your price range and worth it. The simple way to hook up your sub would be to use your sub out line on the back of your receiver. Then set your crossover on the sub itself.
