I am interested in your impressions of the ceramic 4.0 vs some of your B&W's.

Thanks

He still needs about 60 more hours on the 4.0's to really make it a fair comparison, IMHO.
your right of course... ntMarbles

I haven't hook the nOrh ceramic piggies to the main system, where the B&Ws are right now.

My initial impression, they're very close, the piggies seems to play louder, despite of the fact that the B&Ws are over 30" tall.

But the B&Ws have better impact and more 3-D.

The B&W series 2 with the Nautilius technology is VERY impressive in the imaging, smoothness and soundstaging departments. They can image like there's no tomorrow, with good electronics.

But then, the B&Ws are powered by the superb Odyssey Stratos, and the nOrh are not (yet).

So... it's not a fair comparision yet.

The basic sonic signatures are quite different. The B&Ws seem to be smoother, and a seperate mid-range driver.

Or maybe due to the "colour of wood?"

The piggies may actually be more accurate, because of the shape (no standing wave) and the ceramic material.

A comparision will come later. Give me a couple of weeks or so. Let the piggies get more milage on them first. The B&Ws are all well broken-in.

But I am sure my B&Ws will stay, and just do whatever each of them do best, with different kinds of music, together with the nOrh.

But I will do a side by side comparision though. I want to find out for myself too.

I think a really interesting comparision will be between the nOrh 4.0 wood and the B&W 302. Since they're both similar in sizes and closer in costs. And both have unusual cabinets (drum shape for the nOrh, and the prism pillars on the back panel inside, and the matrix like back panel with the B&W 302.)

Alex - the good one.
I would love to see a comparison to the B&W 302's...Azuth

But I'd be more interested in the comparison to the ceramics rather then the wood ones. I'm seriously considering getting a pair to replace my 302's.

Right off hand. The nOrh 4.0 ceramic piggies has more a bit bass, and play much louder. But the 302 seems to be a little more refine (or polite - if you want to call it.) and smoother.

In fact. The ceramic piggies can play VERY LOUD.

But the 302s are cheaper by over a hundred dollars or more (I paid $250. new for mine, when I bought them.)

Alex - the good one.
