Quests for music Subs for nOrh ceramic/marble - continues...Alex - the good one.

M&K's new K-9 sealed box 8", 75 Watts continuous, $550 list, sub might work.

Affordable and very compact.

Maybe even 2 per channel for music?

Comment?

The sub isn't very good, or even near the traditional M&K sub. SGTHT and Egear both said the paper cone sucks. The VX100 is 850, and apparently pretty good. The Pinnacle Baby Boomer can be had for 650 (850 list) and beat the VX100 head to head. That thing is small...

Of course, you could call SVS, get a passive sub, and use one of your old amps to power it!

BTW, Stratos shipped....I am really anxious for Friday to come around!

Thanks. I like their old subs from the 80's.

Too bad I sold mine.

Get all your music out, to welcome your Stratos on Friday. :-)

Have fun.

But I don't like to buy used gear from private party.

Or used gear if I can avoid it. Dealer demo - okay.

Thanks.

But I never like big drivers for woofer/subwoofer.

Besides, their boxes are too big. (That's one of the reason why I sold the Maggies.)

I checked out the SVS also. Too big.

I want 6.5" - 8" , or 10" at the most for the drivers. And I want sealed cabinet. I don't need 120 dB at 9 Hz. All I need is about 90 dB at the most, and -3 dB at 30 Hz or so. For 90% of my music.

I can take my time, since I have a couple of subs already. But I want something tighter and faster (non-ported design.)

Thx anyway.

Buy a Styrke SB-10 woofer. Put it in a 85L box, and youll get -3dB at 30Hz. Easy..

This is the best sealed box woofer I can find, if you have the power to run it. Any other sub has been EQ'd...

BTW, IMO M&K subs are overpriced, I would be suprised if the one you suggested was any good. I would take a HSU-vtf2 over it anyway.

i want smaller cabinet.

I also had the Hsu before. Great for movies, but not very good for pure music.

Yes. I'm real picky with bass.

Tyson. The Rava looks pretty too. Wish they have smaller driver.Alex - the good one.

Quake better - it has dual 8 inch woofers & only extends to 33 hz. The dual woofs don't make it go any lower than a single 8 inch woofer, but it does cut down on IM distortion quite a bit since each driver has to physically move much less for output at any given volume level, leading to a cleaner and snappier sound.

Yes, All I want is clean clear, fast and accurate and musical bass down to 30 Hz at -3 dB. Where 90% of my music needs.

I'm not a pipe-organ freak, or want 95+ dB SPL at any frequency range in my room.

I'll check out the Quake, as you've suggested, and the REL too.

Thx.

is there a reason why Norh's sub isn't mentioned at all here?

The thing is, My system is nowhere even near bass-shy. Now it's already clean, clear, articulate and powerful down to about 40 Hz. The bottom limit of my main speakers at - 3 dB.

With my current subs. It's down to about 30 Hz at - 3 dB. But my current subs are slow with some music, and the ports can get sloppy, from time to time.

I'm *NOT* looking for room shaking HT booms. I never liked big drivers for bass.

I'm looking for quality bass, the kind that is very subtle, you can feel it, but not quite hear it, but you know something is missing if the subs are off, and the music called for that extra touch.

That's why all the Velodyne, Sunfire, etc., and similar boom boxes are out.

In fact. My system has better bass than most at similar price point, or even twice as much.

But if I can get even better, and at a reasonable costs, then, why not?
It is probably the best match, but. . . . .Original Ears

You might consider building the Meniscus Revelare sub. It uses an 11" kevlar Eton woofer. It's vented and the X-Max isn't very large, but Meniscus touts the sub as being very quick.
How aboutBryan

Contacting Michael Barnes and building the 4.0 specialty sub. It should fit everything you are looking for. Or try contacting Tom Vodhanel or some of the others at HTF and see what guidence they can give you.
I may build my own w/ Scanspeaks driver...Alex - the good one.

a pair of 6.5" Scanspeaks per channel. Outboard active crossover, and outboard amp.

See if I can get a friend of mine, who's very good with woodwork to help.

Or, see if I can come out with something with mbarnes.

But it'll be at least a couple of weeks later.

I don't know if the SS 6.5" will get the job done, especially if you're planning to go with a sealed box. Here's a link to Lynn Olson's site which discusses using some of SS's woofers in subs.

Thx for the very informative link.

Actually, I'm thinking about using construction ceramic drain-pipes (will not flex at all) for the inner cabinet to host the speakers. Then, a wooden cabinet encasing the pipings for cosmetic reason. And to increase the overall radiating surface area by utilizing two drivers, sitting on the same plate.

I'll have a lot more reading, and questions before I can even start.

I've never build any speakers before. Other than replacing speakers from my bass guitar amp.

I'll try contact mbarnes.

But I'm not interested in HT's subwoofer.

I've those already.

I'm searching for 100% music only subwoofers.
