norh 3.0 vs norh 4.0Ron C
Mar 8, 2001 5:34 AM
I've been saving up to buy a pair of 4.0s as computer speakers, but the 3.0s have me curious. The 3.0s cost nearly 1/3 the cost, considering the 3.0 are already shielded and the 4.0 cost an extra $25(per pair?) for that. I believe that norh said the norh 3.0 don't play as loud as the norh 4.0 and the f3 is 10hz higher, which concerns me. Are there any other differences between them?

I think the 3.0 will only handle 20W continuous. With 87dB sensistivity, it can play up to ~102 which is very loud (for computer speakers). I've heard neither to say anything about sonic differences.

One difference right off is the 3.0 uses a full range single driver and the 4.0 has two drivers and a crossover. The 3.0 goes from 75 - 20KHz. The 4.0 has a lower range at 65 - 20KHz. If you do not care for the 3.0s they will make a wondeful gift to someone else. The good news is the teak Prism 3.0s are on there way! Hopefully they'll also send out the rosewood drum 3.0s soon too. This way I can give you a side by side comparison of the two. Either way you should have the review within a couple of weeks.

We have been shipping the 3.0s this week but I don't think anyone has them yet. They should arrive soon. I think that the sound of the 3.0s is amazingly good for the price. They actually go down just about as
low as the 4.0 but they don't play as loud. However, they play much louder than most people will suspect.
