| Velodyne making a poping noise !!!! Help !??!?! | agro1 Mar 8, 2001 8:03 AM | | One of my HGS-12's is making a popping noise. I noticed it at high volume when I went over to admire the finish on that little sucker tucked away in the corner. CRAP!!! Now it's even doing it at low to moderate volumes. Could I have damaged it from overdriving the woofer, because I listen to my music VERY loud. It's so damm hard to monitor the sub's distortion when it's in a corner 20ft away and 6 other speakers are belting out music as well. I constantly monitor my Studio 100's to make sure I'm not overdriving'em. Man, very frustrating...
No big deal because I've ordered 2 new HGS-15's to replace the 12's but any thoughts would be appreciated as I don't want to damage the new subs. Thanks for any (helpful) feedback. (Rin Tin Tin need not reply) |
| re: What did you expect? | Ace W. Mar 9, 2001 11:08 AM | | 110+dbs of bass? 100-200 (or more?) watts x 6 (unless they're cheap receiver watts)? You might go death at this rate.
If you want loud subs, just get an Aragon or Krell and hook up some 2 ohm DVC competition car subs. Actually, I think those car subs are much better than Velodyne after putting them on a QUALITY amp- no flimsy piece of plate in the same box (especially inferior D-class, which should be renamed F). I have heard seperate powering car subs and they go much louder than any Velodyne. They also actually sound better? No surprises there. Also, it wasn't mine and I was glad because it hurt my ears worse than the loudest rock concert in front of the speakers. |
| Well, I guess... | agro1 Mar 9, 2001 12:33 PM | | The dual HGS-15's outta do the trick - I have a really tough room to fill. The rest of the speakers are 4 Paradigm Studio 100's up front (dual centers) and Studio 40's as rears all powered by Anthem MCA 5 and 2 through the Anthem AVM-2 preamp, puts out some SERIOUS db's, without distorting. The dealer tells me now the HGS-12 that blew was defective but my listening level didn't help - no worries the dual 15's will rock like mad. |
