| AR-1 - Too much bass? | Frank T. Miller Mar 8, 2001 1:39 PM | | Having issues with too much damn bass coming from my AR-1's when playing music. Seems like I can't hear the vocal nearly as well as I would like, but am being blown out of the room by the bass instead. Movies play great - no complaints there, but music just doesn't sound right. Receiver is Sony DB-930. Any suggestions???? |

| Complaining again I see.... | PJ Mar 8, 2001 4:12 PM | | Well....do you see the massive amounts of other useful chit-chat going on in this place? |
| YOU are in the wrong forum.... | Bovine Mar 8, 2001 9:26 PM | | I don't know who you are, but I rarely see any truely useful information come out of your posts, which makes me wonder why you keep posting here?? Isn't there anything you can pull out of your obviously vast wealth of knowledge to help this gentleman, or do you just stop by to bash nOrh on a regular basis? If that's the case, I can get you the ftp sites of some great bulk-email/spamming programs that will get your message out there much more efficiently, and without wasting so much of your valuable time....by the way, just curious if you would divulge your current equipment setup??

| YOU are in the wrong forum.... | 46minaudio Mar 9, 2001 7:08 AM | | I do deserve it on this post.I have 2 systems in 2 homes. The one I enjoy the most is Vandersteen 3sigs with Aragon 8008st and 8008x3 amps using a lexicon DC 1 upgraded.I dont get alot of time on this system since it is a vacation home on the NC coast. The main system is Paradigm Studio 100 v2s with Acurus A200x3 and Carver M500t for the rears.Using a Yamaha 795a as a pre pro.Not that the 100s are boxy the Vandersteens just have that unboxy sound.Thats really what has me interested in the 4.0s.I will order the 4.0s today. |

| re: Sub level set too high?, boosting tone controls?... | Ace W. Mar 9, 2001 10:44 AM | | I think those are the ones with the powered sub, right? If so, turn down the volume of the sub out unless the receiver has none. If it has none, your out of luck. Also, Sonys tend to have absolutely no power supply and bad internal design. This leads to muddy, harsh tizzy, weak mids/highs. For music, you need something better. Adjusting the sub out and using absolutely no bass boost/tone controls may help though.
If you boost the bass or set the sub out high, no wonder! Also, set music to 2-channel stereo. I think Dolby Digital puts a 10db boost on the bass. Any other surround mode probably does the same thing. Not for music. |
