| Infinity QPS1 Quadrapole Surround Speakers | Rod Brasch Apr 22, 2001 8:30 AM | | I have a pair of QPS1's and for lack of wall space(drapes, windows) I want to hang them from the ceiling. Does anyone know of a good bracket that will work with these speakers. |
| re: Infinity QPS1 Quadrapole Surround Speakers | Alfer Apr 22, 2001 8:41 AM | | I'm not aware of any keyhole bracket that could support them from a ceiling, but my main concern is that hanging them from the ceiling will seriously flaw the surround sound reproduction that those Quadrapole surround speakers are capable of??
Just a thought..could you mount them on each side your listening area as suggested on the Dolby.com website??

I actually thought about recessing them into the ceiling and putting a nice speaker grille over the hole. Then you could make a mount to connect to your rafters (provided you have a 1 story house). Anyway, If you go with the ceiling mount, please let me know how it sounds, as I don't want to give up anything acoustically. Also curious what mains you have w/the QPS. I'm running them with Infinity RS5's and they sound great.

| re: Infinity QPS1 Quadrapole Surround Speakers | Throttle Jockey Apr 25, 2001 5:40 PM | | I am getting ready to hang my RS3 speakers (rear channel) from the ceiling this weekend (maybe) with a pair of Omnimount brackets (the 75 IFK series, I think). I don't know if they carry anything specific to the Q-poles, but it would be worth checking into. The RS3 weighs 15 pounds, so I bought the next sturdiest bracket (rated for 25 pounds) even though they were $150 for the pair. The instructions are very thorough and all the hardware is included--I know, it should be for what they cost. I'd rather be sure that they stay on the ceiling, and I must say that I think these will do the trick. I considered hanging the speakers from chains, but I didn't want to put hooks or eye-screws into the speaker cabinet.
With these brackets, you have to be certain that you locate the center of the ceiling joist so that you can pre-drill for the lag bolts that hold the bracket to the ceiling. What ever you decide, take your time and be patient. I'm chomping at the bit to do mine, but I may not have time until next weekend.
I had the fortune of being able to pre-wire for the rears in the ceiling during new construction of our townhouse. No wires showing except for those coming from the plates in the ceiling. My wife was even open to the idea, so I jumped at the opportunity to do it.
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do. If I see anything that might work for you, I will be sure to let you know.
