| A question for Raphael Barnes, | Roger K Apr 22, 2001 3:09 PM | | Has your father already sent you a "Le" amp for testing ?
If so, I would be very interested to know what do you think of it, is it better/worse than the Multiamp ?.
If you already got it, is it possible that I'll come to your home for some auditioning ? I live pretty close to Dallas.
I would have never asked such a favour, but as I understand the price on this babies is going to be raised soon, and price is a big factor for me.
Thanks. |
| What ?, Michael Barnes has a son in Dallas ? | Ralph Apr 22, 2001 4:19 PM | | I thought he only has a daughter.
If so, Maybe Tyson know him... |
| I am not completely sure, but I think he IS talking about Tyson. | Harry Manson Apr 22, 2001 4:50 PM | | I can't remember where or when, but I'm 100% sure I read somewhere that Michael Barnes has a son named Raphael, who also known as Tyson.
I am not sure that it is the Tyson who hangs around here, but if I'm not mistaken, Tyson from here also live in Dallas. Can it be a coincident ?.
If Tyson from here is really Raphael Barnes the son of Michael Barnes it will surely explain a lot of things. |
| Go away troll... | Marbles Apr 22, 2001 5:26 PM | | You do know that Michael does not have a son, and that Tyson lives in Denver.
There are some members here who do have lots of nOrh products and Due live in Dallas, but I can't think of there names right now. Maybe it will come to me later. |
| Marbles, I demand an apology, | Harry Manson Apr 22, 2001 6:12 PM | | Sorry I got confused about Denver/Dallas.
But I knew I once read about Raphael Barnes is Tyson thing somewhere, so I checked it, and found something:
http://forums.consumerreview.com/crforum?13@@.ee80392/5
I'm not sure I read it there, but it's a possibility.
I already said in my post I wasn't sure that Tyson from here is Raphael Barnes, so I don't get this "troll" thing. |
| Harry, I hope you don't take this the wrong way.. | Marbles Apr 22, 2001 7:18 PM | | Go F*CK yourself!! |
| For Marbles, Tyson and DueN | puay chew Apr 23, 2001 3:59 AM | | I have visited nOrh on Saturday and also met his wife and his daughter, Karen.
There are lots of sick souls in this hobby, ignore them and enjoy our music. After all for those who do not own any nOrh's product does not know what are they talking about.
Michael is a great man and I may get the Synthetic 6.9 soon.
BTW Marbles, I have email you regarding my Bangkok trip. |
| Chua, thank you. It was the best email | Marbles Apr 23, 2001 6:16 AM | | that I have recieved lately. (Although Brulaha's was pretty good too)
I hope you post exactly what you wrote to me here. It is a very nice story that should be told. |
| Here you go........ | puay chew Apr 23, 2001 6:53 AM | | I did think of posting it here but did not want to get unnessary attack.

Hi guys,
After sleeping for about 10 hours, Im feeling very refreshing now!
Norhs showroom is actually in a service apartment outside the central of Bangkok and is also the place where Namphung is staying.
It was there on Saturday afternoon. The weather was very hot at 39 degree C.
The system was setup in the enclosed living room of about (my estimation) 25 feet long by 22 feet wide. It is not a square or rectangular shape. The doors to one of the rooms and kitchen were opened.
I was shocked when I first saw the 9.0 and the ACA and the new synthetic 6.9. They look SO MUCH BETTER than what I have seen in the website. They are beautiful! I immediately told Michael to change all the pictures in his website as they are doing injustices to the actual thing. The sub woofer was big and beautiful unlike the one I have seen in the website which looks very old and ugly. He said that he is in the process of taking new pictures for them. I think this is important as the they serve as a first impression of nOrhs products.
The new Synthetic Marble 6.9 looks exactly the same in shape and size as the 9.0. Michael got it one day before I arrived so it has not been fully broken in yet.
Sonically, the 6.9 sounded similar to the 9.0. However the 9.0 is smoother, sweeter and more spacious. Bass from both the 6.9 & 9.0 was AWESOME. There was a pounding bass from one of the track which Namphung played and I thought that it was coming from outside of the building. Im not exaggerating, the pounding was like what I used to hear from the construction site and the amp was not even the Multiamp but some cheap staff which they have brought from Thailand.
Michael played the 9.0 to PA level, very, very loud and it was not fatigue at all and the sounds seem to come from every where to the listening position. I did not understand why a reviewer wrote in AR that the 9.0 cant play loud. I did not bring my own CDs so I did not know where or when to listen for details. The 6.9, I believe after breaking in, would be stunning. It was a bit harsh and not as spacious as the 9.0 but it can really go as low and loud as the 9.0. Michael was correct to mention in his email to me that the walls were shaking with the 6.9. After listening to them, I told myself that I need to throw away my speaker. If money is not a problem, I would have order the 6.9 straight away! I think the 6.9 offer super value at under 1K. The 9.0 was better but when you take $$ into account, I think the 6.9 is of much higher value. I asked Michael if he would make the 9.0 with synthetic marble and he said that it would only bring down the price by only about $200.
My itinerary was tide and I left after 3 hours of listening. Michael gave my wife and me a ride back to our hotel. On our way back, he told us that he set up nOrh without thinking of making money for the company but to date he has sold more than 2000 pairs of speakers in 3 years! I think, if the products are good, they will sell themselves without marketing and advertising.
Back home, the ACA is beyond description. I was so sick of the Audiolab that I have put it aside and connect my CDP to the Stratos direct 3 weeks ago. I thought I have the cleanness and shortest connection but when the ACA is connected, everything changed.
I thought that I had speed and details with the Stratos. Now it is even faster and the details were very audible even at very low volume. I can even hear that the sound is moving/flowing from the left to the right speaker!! The sound is also crystal/sparking clear which I have never heard of. Each instruments has it own position and were well separated. Sound stage is soooooo much more wider. The minor details were so much clearer and audible. Bell sounded sparking clear. Imaging also improved |

| with all due respect... | eric the unlogged Apr 22, 2001 6:46 PM | | how the heck would ANYONE in here know that Barnes doesn't Dynaudio have a son?? |
| with all due respect... | DueN Apr 22, 2001 6:57 PM | | And how would ANYONE in here know that he does? I guess this is a stalemate?! |
| Tyson's from Denver, I'm from Dallas... | DueN Apr 22, 2001 6:26 PM | | How do you guys know about this Raphael from Dallas??? Hmmm, maybe if he exists, I'd like to meet him... and ask to see whether I can get a discount. :-)
Of course, you don't actually think I believe you, do you? :-) |
| Tyson's from Denver, I'm from Dallas... | Harry Manson Apr 22, 2001 6:49 PM | | DueN,
Believe what you want, but bear this in mind:
I wasn't the one who started this thread nor have I written this:

| Will the real Ralph Barnes please stand up. | Philbert Apr 23, 2001 7:45 PM | | Hey who put on that slim shady song?
"I'm the Ralph Barnes the real Ralph Barnes, would the real Ralph
Barnes please stand up....." |
| re: A question for Raphael Barnes, | DueN Apr 22, 2001 7:13 PM | | Roger, I'm in Dallas but... I'm not Raphael. Trust me! :-)
I'm getting some Le Amp. nOrh says June. But I'm not counting on anything until July/August. I'll be glad to give you an audition when I get them, if you can wait. I know, the price may go up by then. So it may not help your situation.
Do you have the Multiamp? Accordng to nOrh, it sounds very similar with more "kick" in the bass. To me, if it's sounds just like the Multiamp, then it's already a bargain. |
| You guys are hilarious! | Tyson Apr 23, 2001 10:59 AM | | Wow, I go from being a "salesman" for nOrh to a member of the family! I just wish "dad" would take money from nOrh so he could increase my per diem :)
For the record, I am no relation to anyone involved w/ nOrh, and in fact I have never met MBarnes unless you count email.
And I have no plans to get the Le Amp. In fact, except for the prism 3.0's that I am getting as a present for a friend, I am done purchasing electronics, period. Saving my pennies for an overhead projector a couple of years in the future, but that is it. Also doing my best to ride out the current economic slump. Rather than buy more stuff, I am paying off debt, which is almost done. I know SO MANY people that have been laid off that I don't want to have piles of debt if it happens to me. |
