| Looking for quality audio stores in NJ | Geoff Garcia Apr 23, 2001 8:07 AM | | I want to go out listening to different speakers this weekend coming up. I live in Califon, NJ which is in Hunterdon County. The furthest east I'd like to travel would be Westfield/Summit, the furthest south is princeton, the furthest west is Allentown, PA, and the furthest North would be the NY border...I'm not interested in anything in NYC or Phili. Any help would be mucho appreciato!! :) if that means anything! Oh, and finally! I'm looking for speakers between 500$->3000$ |
| re: Looking for quality audio stores in NJ | Marbles Apr 23, 2001 9:06 AM | | One of the good Audio store stories I have is when I visited Freehold Audio Video.
I am from Ft.Wayne, Indiana, but was visiting my in laws in Kendall Park NJ (Near South Brunswick, just north of Princeton)last summer.
Needing to get away for a few hours I looked for nearby High-end stores in the yellow pages and found 2 in Freehold. One had mid fi stuff, but about a mile away was Freehold AV. It has (had) Bat, Krell, B&W, Cal Audio etc..
Since I was interested in Krell and Cal audio, but I would have to go to Indianapolis to hear the equipment I just had not made the effort. This would be a great opportunity.
I found the store easy enough, right as they opened. I told the salesman that I was there just to listen, and since I was from out of state the chances of me buying were about 0. He was very nice and set up some Tannoys with BAT VK30se pre-amp and the BAT 200 amp, with the Cal 10 CDP. He took lots of time with me and treated me like his best customer.
We then went to the next room to listen to Krell amp, Nakamichi MB10 CDP, and B&W N805's (it sounded gritty, must have been the Nak!)
If I was in the area, that would be the store I would give my business to. I have heard many stories of arrogence from NYC stores, but I found nothing like that in Freehold.
I know it is just out of the area you said you would visit, but it just might make the few extra minutes worth while. |

Woodbridge Stereo, Rt 35, Woodbridge, NJ. Mirage and Adcom
Audio Nexus, Summit, NJ. All kindsa better stuff.
Best Buy, 6th Avenue, Circuit City or Da Wiz, all on Rt 22, Union. (just seeing if you're awake)
Best of all but perhaps a little farther and worth the extra effort would be Audio Connection in John Rutan's Verona, NJ. They carry many line of great stuff (Totem, Vandersteen, Cary, Rogue, etc...) and are also the only Magnapan dealer around here. You will need to make an appointment. It's worth it. |

Cheers!
