Celestion subwoofer problemtodka

I just purchased a home theater package with a yamaha receiver and celestion speakers with 8" powered subwoofer. There is a humming sound coming out of all the speakers when the subwoofer is connected. I have the sub connected with a monster cable subwoofer cord. When I disconnect this cord from the sub or the receiver, the humming stops. The humming sound is most noticeable from the sub. I have checked all speaker wire connections and they are fine as well as all other connections. The sub is plugged into a surge protector. Is this a faulty sub or monster cable or somthing else. Any help would be appreciated.

Try a different, even a cheap RCA cable....
Try speaker level connections vs RCA cable....
Try a different wall outlet....
Turn EVERYTHING else off...lights, furnace, ceiling fan, ANYTHING that could be causing interference.

If it disappears, work backwards, see what is causing it. If the sub powers up and plays, you should be ok as far as the sub goes. A true line conditioner, not surge protector might help also, but you can troubleshoot before you spend the $$$$.

Cheers,
Russ
