M&K or PardigmMagnumsound

I think I have my home theater system down to two choices: M&K 750THX system and Paradigm Studio 40's (front) Studio CC (center) and Studio 20's (rear) -undecided on sub (under $500). The system would be used 75% music (hip-hop, r&b, 70's) and 25% home theater. What do you all suggest? Thank you.
75% music, only one REALLY with those choices....RuSsMaN

....and that is the Paradigm Studio series. If you we're 75% HT, I might swing the other way, but for music, ANY music, I'd take the Paradigm in a heartbeat, vs M&K.

I could be wrong, but I have heard that the M&K are really designed for Theater, not so much music. Not to say they sound bad, but I have spent some quality time with the Paradigms, and they are great music speakers.

There are exceptions to the rule, but in general I have found this:

A good music speaker will most always be a fantastic theater speaker.
A good theater speaker may not always be a fanatastic music speaker.

Just my $.02

Cheers,
Russ

I would go with the Paradigms since you are biased toward music listening. My understanding of THX speakers is that their dispersion pattern is optimized for HT, which may not sound so great for stereo listening. As far as subs go, both M&K and Paradigm make great ones, but since you have under 500, check out adireaudio.com , their Rava sub should be excellent for music since its a sealed design.

I just purchased a pair of 40's for the front, 20's for the rear, and the studio cc. It is truly an awesome music/home theater package. I wasn't too impressed with some heavier rock type music on these speakers at first but as they break in they sound better and better. I don't have a sub yet. I'm looking for something "musical" in the under $800 dollar range. I might try an NHT subone or subtwo as their prices are dropping due to new model releases.

So....my vote is for the Paradigm.

Go with the Paradigm setup - I have basically the same as you but Studio 100's up front. If you want good bass, with the music you listed, you really need a good sub. Spend the extra money and get a Velodyne HGS series sub. There's nothing that compares to the HGS. Depending on your room size, the HGS-10 belts out bass like no other and is tiny. Audition one and you will be truly amazed.

i really like M&Ks...but i like the S85/125 series better for music. try ebay if you want to go that route---M&K warranties are transferable for 10 years.

still all these guys are slamming them for no reason....have they even provided one? not to mention, that almost every single studio in the world uses them?

however, they are pricy, and i think instead of both of these options, i would go to www.audioc.com and order 5 emeralds and a quake sub...beautiful speakers

good luck!

ACI emeralds are great HT & music speakers, but spring for an SVS sub if you really want deep, powerfull bass.

i agree with SVS rec, but thought he said under 500 for a sub?
20-39CS or 25-31CSBryan

Either way he'll still need an amp to power it with. If he can't afford one, I'd go with the 25-31CS and buy a cheap receiver to power the sub. If he doesn't care for that route, he should look at the HSU VTF-2.
