| SUNFIRE-True Subwoofer Signature or WHAT? | BASSfrik Apr 24, 2001 11:49 AM | | Hey Fellas.. I am deffinatelly sure you guys are goin to help me out on this one. I want to buy a Sub-woofer and the little research I been doin, the Bob Carver`s SUNFIRE-True Subwoofer Signature is on top. Powered by a 2700Watt amp , goes all the way down to 16Hz. Now do you guys have any that you can suggest better than this to buy?(cost US$1895) |
| re: SUNFIRE-True Subwoofer Signature or WHAT? | DueN Apr 24, 2001 12:30 PM | | That little thing is pretty amazing, isn't it? I've listened to it a while back and was quite impress that the little guy was putting out quite a bit of bass. How clean the bass was a different matter.
One caveat though... that 2700W of power is not what it seems. Most of it (~90%) is spent controlling back pressures created by the opposing drivers. You're left with 300-400W. That's quite a bit of energy wasted due to the design.
If space is a concern, then it's a pretty good candicate. There are quite a few other VERY GOOD subs in your price range: HSU, SVS, VMPS, Paradigm, etc. Shop around. Good luck! |
| Great Sub | Adam Apr 24, 2001 12:57 PM | | Outstanding sub, look into the MArk II version and save yoursefl some cash. |
| Stinky sub...... | bone Apr 24, 2001 1:22 PM | | git a Velo HGS or a pair of SVS subs- they'll walk all over a Sunfire. Read the whole link below- Tom Nousaine is THE sub guru and Vodhanel ain't too shabby neither.

| If your considering the Sunfire.... | agro1 Apr 24, 2001 1:23 PM | | Especially at that price, you would be crazy not to go with a Velodyne HGS-10 or even 12. It has a 3000 watt amp, 1250 watts rms, puts the Sunfire (and any other sub for that matter) to absolute shame. The HGS-10 produces so much tight, tunefull perfect bass you will be astounded. I did a side by side comparison between the Velo, Paradigm, Sunfire, M&K THX, ect - The Velodyne put'em all to shame - No questions asked, I just stood there and grinned. I started with the HGS-10, loved the HGS series so much I now have two HGS-15's...Boom !!!! |
| Well | Adam Apr 24, 2001 2:36 PM | | I do agree the Velo would be the better choice although I would also consider the Klipsch LF12. He didn't ask about other subs which is why I said the Sunfire is damn good and it is damn good! |
| Hard but | Bryan Apr 25, 2001 6:38 AM | | Dual SVS 16-46CS w/Samson S700 amp should work and come in at $1,369 delivered. Dual 16-46PC are $1,485. |
| I have a list of "Wide Screen Review" mag tests on SW and........ | lewis Apr 25, 2001 8:37 PM | | ....it says the Sunfire True Sub MKII is 98dB at 15 hz, 104dB at 20hz, 104dB at 25hz, 109dB at 30hz, 108dB at 35hz, 109dB at 40hz. Also said the Velodyne HGS-12 is 90dB at 20hz, 104dB at 25hz, 108hz at 30hz, 105dB at 35hz, and 106dB at 40hz. Both were tested in the same way by the same person. Audio magazine tested the Sunfire with graphs and everything. They said it would output 112dB. 108dB at 20hz. I have a Sunfire MKII and mine wont do the 108dB at 20hz but I think I will test it some but not all the way. I dont have anyone to give it back to when it brakes. |
