Which speakers for Yamaha RX-V800 ?C-Man Blues
Jun 3, 2001 4:19 AM
Hi there!
After reading millions of reviews on this site (thx guys), I'm going to buy a Yamaha RX-V800 A/V Receiver (DD, DTS, DD EX, DTS/ES) but I don't know which speakers suit to the RX-V800! Can you give me a hint, which speakers I should buy? (I won't spend more than 1000 $ on all 5 speakers).

thx

I have the RX-V496 and was using nOrh 4.0s with it. Overall it was a little too bright for my taste, but nothing that I couldn't live with. Just turned down the treble a bit and everything was fine. They go for $850. B&W DM303s should also work but will run you close, if not slightly above, to $1,000. Same thing with the Swan Diva 2.1s. Perhaps a package from Def Tech might be more to your liking. Also, give Paradigm speakers a listen but make sure you use the Yamaha receiver. The sound can be too bright for some people. Or you can give the Energy Encore or Take 5.2 packages a try. The Edge Audio 5.1 package might also work. The last option would be the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 package w/HSU VTF-2 sub. That runs $1,100 (over budget) but includes the sub.

Here are some to look at.

NHT SuperTwo's/NHT SuperOnes/NHT SuperCenter- recently discontinued but can be had at Crutchfield for $950 total. GREAT DEAL read the reviews on these speakers.

Paradigm MiniMonitors x 2/ Paradigm CC350 should run you about $1000.

Paradigm Titans/Paradigm ADP 170/Paradigm CC170 would run you maybee $850?

NHT SB2/NHT SB1/ NHT SC1 should run you $900? these are the "new" NHT's that replaced the Super series in May.

There are many other brands to look at such as PSB, Mission, Phase Technology, Atlantic Technology, B&W, etc... but I think Paradigm and NHT are the best value $ per $. (IMO)
