Car stereo speakerstroopa
Jun 3, 2001 12:28 PM
Anyone familiar with auto stereo/speakers ? I just replaced stock Jeep speakers with Pioneer co-ax's. Also installed bass blockers(under advise of salesman). The Pioneers are certainly more detailed but lack the bass of stock paper speakers !! Do bass blockers eliminate too muchbass ? Any input appreciated.

If in bass blockers you mean capacitors yes they cut lower bass. depending on their value they may cut bass frequencies to high. It really depends on the size of speakers you replaced. If they were 5.5" or larger and you are running them off a factory deck then they probably do not need caps. if they are 3.5" or 4.5" yes I would cap them at about 200 to 400hz. Especially if used with an external amp or after market deck wich can supply more power.

Hi S.S. - The Pioneers are 5.25" co-ax rear and 4x6" co-ax fronts. The caps are 400hz rear and 200hz front. I am using the factory cd deck. I was just kinda surprised as to how little bass was put out from these speakers compared to the factory paper cone speakers. Would removing the rear 400hz cap make a noticable improvement in bass ? Not too concerned about the fronts. Thanks for any input.

If you are running them off of the factory head unit, I would recommend taking them off and listening to them. It will make a difference in the bass. If the bass is then not driven to distortion from your head unit, leave them off. Basically, taking them off will make a difference in the bass department. Take care!

I'm going to be putting some Infinity's in my YJ (wrangler) and I have gotten conflicting opinions on how to do it. Some say I will have to remove my hard top and fold the windshield to remove the dash. If you had a YJ did they do that?

My Jeep is 2000(TJ)Wrangler series. My front speakers aren't dash mounted - sorry. I did take the caps off front and rear- much better !!
