Best 2-way bookshelf speakers under $3000, need helpSIH

I'm looking to buy bookshelf speakers with stands for no more than $3000.00. They must sound great without the help of a subwoofer and they must look great as well. I've auditioned the ACI Jaguar 2000, B&W Nautilus 805, and Sonus Faber Concerto. So far I'm leaning toward the ACI's. I initially wanted to get floorstanders, but have decided to go with a quality set of bookshelf speakers. What other models should I include in my audition process? I'll be using a Rotel amp and preamp with these speakers. Thanks.

Michael Pazzi has compared the nOrh 9.0 to the ACI Jaguar. He preferred the nOrh 9.0 over the ACI in every regard, except that it didn't play loud enough for him in his space (literally a small castle). If I remember right, the bass is deeper than the Jaguar.

So, unless you have huge amount of space to fill (like a small castle), the nOrh 9.0 is highly recommended. Styling is very subjective. You may or may not like it. See if you have a nOrh 9.0 owner near you who maybe willing to give you a listen. Good luck.

..to me. Apply at www.tYson.com
Enjoy!
On a serious note how much bass and how loud do u need?
If u get floor standers with a transmission line u can have the sweetness of a 2-way monitor and a low bass output too. Enjoy!

It sounds to me just like, "Need best 4-door sedan for under $100,000." I can't conceive of paying $3000 for a pair of bookshelf speakers. But I sure will be curious to find out what you end up with.

Dynaudio Contour 1.3 and B&W Nautilus 805 are both excellent, although the 805 might be a bit weak on the bass without a sub for certain kinds of music. Haven't heard the Nohrs.

On a bang for the buck level, I think the Paradigm Studio 40 v.2 are a hell of a deal. They are a 2.5-way design, but still bookshelf speakers.

You've already heard them so you know how much better they are than the other speakers you mentioned. I wouldn't trade my Jags for anything!

If you want to ask for speakers alone, put the Reference 3a De capos along with other suggestion. However, the De Capos will expose the flaws of your Rotel amp, preamp at least. You have not said your source componenents and I hope it is up to the job for the speakers.

Whilst I have never heard the 3a, your point about the electronics is so true. Most $3k bookshelves are very revealing.

To the original poster...The 9.0 will show up the rotel preamp in a flash. The 7.0 (which is apparently not as revealing as the 9.0) shows up my cyrus 3, which IMO is better than the rotel...judging this on all the rotel stuff I have heard (which is most of it).

No NAD's either :)
