Big sound small dollarsEdT

Hi all.
I have a modest family room that I'm setting up some AV gear in (Pioneer pro 510 tv- with a DV37 and an elite 36TX).I will use the room for 60% Cable/Satellite TV/VCR, 25% Music listening, 15% DVD 7.1 surround bliss. My speakers are an assortment of Cambridge soundworks stuff, that sounds adequate. While they sound fine for movies, for critical listening they just can't create the experience I'm looking for. Several audiophile friends of mine suggested that I audition Vienna Acoustics Mozarts. I must have a bad ear, because after three separate auditions at three different places, I came away feeling that they felt warm but compressed in the upper ranges. Then I listened to a pair of Martin Logan Prodigy's. As that Emril chef guy says, BAM! Big, open, FAST! that's what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I'm not looking to get divorced in the near future, so I cannot entertain the thought of buying them.
Does anyone have any suggests that would be worth me listening to? My speaker budget is $2500-$3000 inluding sub if needed. I'm really interested in Ascend acoustics speakers (Maybe with an SVS sub?), but at 4 ohms, they'll probably eat my receiver for lunch. Also, after my Cambrigde soundworks experience, I'm very wary of buying speakers without listening to them first. BTY, Someone also suggested SF's concerto grand piano's, but for my room, I'd love to find bookshelfs that I could wall mount. Am I pipe dreaming??? Thanks for all your help

How about a some Martin Logan Aerius? Much smaller and cheaper than the Prodigy's. For bookshelf speakers, look at ACI (Emeralds - free in home trial) Dunlavy SC-I's, Dynaudio Audience 42's, or nOrh 4.0 (wood versions can be easily wall mounted). ACI and nOrh are factory direct and offer free trials/money back guarantees (www.audioc.com and www.norh.com)
Your ears are fine!DueN

How about a set of ACI Sapphire IIIs with there Titan II sub? That's my plan. I have there Emeralds and Quake and the combo is superb. I'm looking to move up. You could pay as little as about $1800 for the older Sapphires and Titan II in oak closeout. Or get the new LEs for around $2200. I've never dealt with a better company in my life! BTW, a lot of people have made comparisons of the Sapphire IIIs with the $1800 Sonus Fabers. One reviewer actually sold his more expensive Sonus Fabers and bought his review sample Sapphires IIIs!

Thanks for the info. I talked to the folks at Acsend and they said they thought my receiver would be adequate. Seems like they are worth the audition at the very least. How long have you had yours? And where did you get your mounts? Thanks again
