Help New Paradigms!desot
Jun 4, 2001 3:22 PM
I just purchased a pair of Paradigm monitor 5.2 and a PS2200 Sub.

I would be int. if someone out there has the same speaker combo:
I am having difficulty finding the optimum balance and freq. response.
Either the sub is too overbearing or does not seem to "fill in". I sense a hole in the bass response somewhere in the "acoustic bass" range.
I am using a Marrantz SR19. BTW, I had energy pro22's prev. and they were spectacular. Blew a tweeter. boo hoo!
Should I expect significant opening up of the sound upon break-in?
Should I use the lfe rca out from the receiver or go into the sub from the mains. I want to minimize the treatment to the mains so will not loop through the sub.
Also should I set mains to small or leave the mains set to large?

Use receiver LFE and set those speakers to small. Let them break in as per owners manual. Set the cut off frequency on the sub to approx
80Hz, phase to zero and the sub volume where you like it. After all this you must find the optimum placement for your new speakers. Hopefully you will have some flexibility here. My 2 2200's are straight accross the room in opposite sides of my studio 100's. It took quite a while for break in and proper placement but once you figure that out its worth the effort.
Good luck

Thanks! I'll do that.
I have ususlly bought stuff off the floor in the past that has run in so I'm not used to the break in that is needed.
I guess patience is the name of the game.

Hello Desot: Here Antonio Machado, 50, New York. I agree with Swervinman, I think it worths to give enough time to: (1) break in period and (2) set up properly, patiently, your subwoofer, I think you have a good sub, so try to get the best from him setting it up carefully... day by day... cut of frecuency, volume, etc.; moreover, I think the placement of the sub helps to optimize it. Best regards, Antonio Machado.

Get a SPL meter such as the Radio Shack one and run a frequency sweep through the sub.
You wil most likely find that there is a hole somewhere, according to the symptoms you are describing.
