Energy XL-S8 Subwoofer, any opinion on these?hp

Hi all,

A local store here in Toronto is clearing them out. I was wondering if any of you own these and what are your thoughts on them.

It's 75% HT and 25% music.

What would you recommend that would cost about the same range. ($300 CDN). The other sub I thought about getting was Paradigm PS1000. But it is probably around $500 CDN.

Thanks

You can check out the famous little Sony SA-WM40 at sears or The brick
if you cant find it at the brick or sears visit the bricks website http://www.thebrick.com/ you can buy one of those for about $389 at the brick & $399 at sears.
The sony will blow the energy away for home theater and come close if not sound better to for home theater then the paradigm.
The Sony SA-WM40 is a popular sub.
It can also kill the JBL-PB10 for home theater to.
Check out the reviews for it & read every one here is the link

I live in canada to and i listined to the Sony at the brick & it shocked me that it was a $389 canadian dollers.

You can get it a bit cheaper if you buy over the internet using http://www.borderfree.com/ go download it and then find the cheapest price for the sub on the internet ( you are also able to shop american sites) and the total price in canaidan dollers will be about $280 to $300 canadian dollers.

good luck

Hello, A better deal in Canada for $299 is the D-Box David 301 sub, with a 12 inch driver and a 350 watt amp. It's made in Quebec and sold at Costco for that price. You can do a search for reviews of the D-Box David 300 (previous model) on this website. My brother has one and it produces great, musical bass in a very large room. I prefer it to the Paradigm PS-1000, which I used to own. Seems more agile for music.

Acutally I considered getting this baby. As you said the best price here is about $400. The energy is onsale for $300. And it seems that alot of people are saying the sony sub is not great for music. That is one of the factor I considered.

The other sub that I was looking at was the Yamaha YSW320, but that runs for $800 CDN.

Anyway, I figure the thing to do is get a sub at a reasonable price with decent preformance. And later on, when I actually have some money, I will get a better sub.

I will look into the D-Box David 301 sub. Thanks for the info.

I recently (6 months ago) got the Energy Take 5 system with the XL-s8. I was pleasantly surprised at the frequency response and overall tonality of the sub. Of course, if you are hoping for window rattling, bowel shaking bass then this isn't the sub for you...but for decently low rumbles as well as musicality, IMHO for $300.00 CDN you can't go wrong. Make sure the sub matches up well with your other speakers, and give it a listen. If it doesn't do it for you...move on. Hope this helps.
