Need recommedation on speakersFireman27

I'm purchasing a yamaha reciever (htr-5240) with 80 watts p/channel. The reciever can be bought with or without speakers. The speakers the salesman at Best Buy is recommending the yamaha NSP 220 package, but I don't trust him. Can anyone suggest a surround sound speaker package (satelittes, subwoffer, and center) for under $275. I know it isn't a lot of $, but thats all I've got to work with. I'm not planning on blasting the neighbors out, but can appreciate quality sound. I don't want to buy speakers that can't live up to the quality of the reciever. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecitated.

That's asking for the impossible. Your best bet is to buy a HTiB system from Kenwood. But it might be possible to get three pairs of the HR 206HO from www.egghead.com for $40 a pair ($165 for all three pairs, shipping included) and then find a used Sony SA-WM40 sub. The new Sony subs can be had for around $160. Otherwise look at a pair of used speakers. So, your best bets are either the HTiB or just buying a pair of used speakers or keeping an eye out on the auction sites. Klipsch KG3.5 are going for $60 on auction right now at ubid.com with a couple hours left.

Bryan's right, you can't get much. Go with the yamaha YHT-23 if you like the receiver, you can get the package pretty cheap now days that the mew yamaha line came out. this system is complete w/sub for about $500. Look into it.
Far from impossible....RuSsMaN

Hometheaterdirect.com - Level 1 system with powered sub - $149
Consumer-direct.com - Acoustic Research ARHC1 with powered sub - $279
Consumer-direct.com - Jensen JHT805 with powered sub - $164

There are offerings from KLH, Sony, Kenwood, JBL, from as little as $150 to $300, including powered subs.

I think the best bet is the ARHC1, but that's up to you brotha...

Cheers,
Russ
