New to home theater need speaker advice for my specific needkristen Kennedy

I consider myself to have audiophile tastes but I am very new to speaker brands and home theater lingo. I'm hoping a few people could help me out. I know this is a repetitive topic but I was hoping to have a set of 5-8 speakers that I could test out this weekend. Here are my needs:

room 12x 14. I plan on buying a house and want to take the speakers into a bigger room as well so they must be powerful but also play well when quiet.

music needs: Love accoustic guitar, jazz, vocals(Dave Matthews, Rat pack, sting, saxophone is my favorite). I need speakers that are very accurate and make cymbals clang. I love to hear the subtle differences in singers voices. Raspy sounds, singers breathing in. I love that. I love a nice high end but not too much where it hurts my ears. I love speakers that make the music sound like it is floating in mid air.

Home theater: All action all the time. I don't know if it's hard to get speakers that do well with action and are airy for jazz music as well. When I watch home theater I want it loud

cost: Want to spend around $700 but will go up to $1000 if speakers in this range are much better.

I have a good subwoofer so bass is not that important. I do plan on buying a center and rears in the future but not now. I have old ones that will do.

I currently have Infinity Interlude IL-10's. Mildly happy. They are very accurate and play music well but lack the ultimate airy feeiling with jazz. Thanks for your advice, I can't wait to check some out.

Give them a try.One of the best sub 1000$ speakers Ive ever heard.
I second the Paradigms but you could likely afford the 60's andswervinman

avoid buying stands as the 60's are a floorstanding model.

I've really enjoyed the B&W CDM line. Their CDM 1NT speakers are bookshelf speakers that run, if memory serves, for between $1000 and $1200. Of course, you'll need something to put them on, so that will be an added expense unless you already have stands.

Don't know if that puts them out of your price range, but I recommend them very highly!

Of course, the most important thing to do is audition. Listen to as many speakers as possible. Just because one person likes something doesn't mean the next will. Good luck and happy listening!

I really like the sound of my Energy Veritas 2.1's - very open, detailed, and tight for music, great for HT. This is just a thought, but since you state you like the 'cymbals clang' you may end up preferring the sound of a metal dome tweeter over the sound of a silk dome, the metal domes tend to sound a little different.
OMG the Veritas line is finally catching onardee

GET OUT AND LISTEN TO THESE!! the veritas line is so awsome i cant begin to explain them. The Studio 40/60 are great, BUT the veritas smoke them. i know of a few shops that 'were' paradigm reference dealers, as soon as those same stores started to carry the Veritas line, Paradigm pulled their licesne. What is paradigm scared of, well it should be obvious.
I second thatPJB

I listened to the Paradigm Studio 40's and many others discussed on this site, including, B&W 601, 602 & 603 series, M&K, PSB, Klipsch, etc.,etc. I almost bought the 40's but something about them just didn't do it for me. I knew I could do better. Then, by accident, I stumbled on to the Energy Veritas 2.1's. After weeks of listening and reading reviews about tons of speakers, I knew in seconds they were superior to any of the rest I had listened to in this price range. They retail for $1000 but you can do better. Its true, you have to be the judge so listen a lot. Just make sure these get on your list.
I second that....but unfortunaltlyardee

i had to 'settle' for a set of studio 20s, the vertias 2.1 were $500CND more, i got the 20s for $900 CND, the best i could do on the Veritas was $1400CND.
