Klipsch RF-3 true power ratingRoger H

Hello,
I purchased a pair of RF-3 a while ago, and they were rated at 225 watts, same in the owner's manual. Then a few months after, Klipsch decides to rate them 150 watts, and when I called them they said it was a printing error ( the 225 watts), and they really are 150 watts.
Any one has experience with Klipsch or in fact other manufacturers changing the specs after they sell the product? Thanks. Roger

Unfortunately happens all the time. Speaker companies will rate max speaker power handleing instead of continious. And Def Tech's web page claims 92db sensitivity on some TL series when reviews have over and over rated them at 85 - 86db. A 'BIG' difference. Sad part Def Tech admits to the error on their site but it's been up for years and they refuse to correct it. They had rather lie to their potental customers.
Simply, you cant trust company stats...
And dont even start on receiver power ratings...what a joke.

Tell me something are you unhappy with the sound? I mean now that you know they ar rated at 150 as opposed to 225 has the sound gotten worse? Take the power rating with a grain of salt. The fact they are so sensitive, 98db 1w/1m, means you'll proabbly never need 150w to drive them. count your blessings you own a very sensitive speaker.

I completely understand your outrage, Roger. It's not that goddamn 75 Watts difference, it's the principle, the honesty factor that counts. Basically false advertisement, that everyone in this western civilization have to put up with, and there's nothing you can do about it. We all have to be sceptical when we're exposed to any ads - just like we need this scepticism almost every areas in life. Just listen to George Carlin's "You Are All Diseased" CD: Advertising Lullabye - American Bullsh!t - Businessmen (tracks 13-14-15), and then you realize that the power rating on your Klipsch speakers (or on a Sony receiver) is really no big deal.
You've got to give them this at least.bigwally

From what I understand Klipsch corrected the error themselves once discovered rather than let it slide.

You're right, it's no big deal. Even 150 watts with a sensitive speaker like that will be way louder than any human can stand.
I would worry a lot more with...Debra

A speaker with a sensitivity of 85db that indicated a minimum power required at 20 watts RMS. The fact is you need to heed the warning of any speaker that it is "clipping" and in fact it is the misreperesentaion of of the minimum watts needed that disappoints far more consumers who buy speakers.
