Axiom's floorstanders, anyone have experience with them?bigwally

I'm helping a friend buy some speakers and of course a better than average cost vs. performance ratio would be nice to find. I've heard good things about the bookshelf models and saw the Soundstage review on the larger M40Ti, but he's probably looking more toward the M60Ti or M80Ti.

Please respond if you have any info on these models regarding tonal balance/voicing, dynamic impact, build quality/fit and finish, midrange clarity etc....any helpful comments on any Axiom model will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Phil, how are you doing? You responded to one of my messages a week or so ago concerning Athena and PSB speakers. How would you compare the Axiom to the PSB's and Athena lines? Also, have you ever dealt with Moore's Audio and Video in Sault St. Marie? If so, are they pretty flexible with their prices? Also, do you know what other lines of speakers they carry? I'd love to compare Axiom side by side with PSB's and other Canadian manufacturers, thanks!!
Bob

hey bob,a to your question moores is now affiliated with a national chain . they use to be good ,but i cant vouch for now.i yhink ive seen paradiam, klisph axiom and psb,but im not 100 percent sure what all they carry, being a chain type store means you sell what they send you and maybe you wont get all of a lineup.as for psb to axiom comparison ive actually never compared them so i better shut up on that one.i would think there would be some price flex as there praobly charging close to retail, but im not sure.

Bigwally, I have not personally heard the Axiom line of speakers but I hear they represent a good value. A guy that could shed some light on their sound would be Marc Hallman up at the audio shop in Ottawa. The link to their website is: http://www.audioshop.on.ca/ On their website there is a section where you can email him for info. He'll give you "Very" detailed info on their sound and value relative to other lines in their store.

My local Axiom dealer is closing out their electronics and their selection is limited to the M50 (which I didn't listen to) , the M60 and M80 (which I was able to switch between when a buddy and I listened to them). I thought the construction was well done, nicely veneered and I think the way they do the side walls looks nicely different from everyone else.

Comparing the sound I preferred the M60. Both of us found the sound of the M80 too forward in the mid and highs. Talking with my preferred salesman last week about it, his opinion is the M80's dual 6.5 woofers can't keep up with the dual 5.25 mids and dual tweeters and require the use of a good subwoofer to balance the sound out. I'd agree with that. I thought the M60 with dual 6.5 woofs, single 5.25 mid and single tweeter to be a more balanced sound. You didn't notice the bass as much with the M80's as you did with the M60's.

I didn't notice much difference with imaging, maybe a little advantage to the M80's but the M60's were further apart than than the M80's so that may make a bit of a difference and how accurately can you compare imaging in a store setting anyway.

Both played plenty loud driven by a Harman/Kardon 500 receiver.

I still haven't decided whether to buy or not as I hadn't intended to purchase new speakers until early next year. But if I do buy now, I will choose the M60s.

My opinion for what it's worth.
Thanks Derek, and to all who responded. (nt)bigwally
