The S 312 is about 33 % more in cost. Which is going to get me the better sound? Are the S 312s worth the money? Has anyone compared these two setups? |

Jul 24, 2001 1:14 PM | | Me and my friend extensively compared the JBL floorstanders from the N and S series, and while the Studio's sounded very good, he ended up getting the ND310 beacuse it had more, clean bass coming from the woofers, and it sounded just as good, IMHO, as the more expensive S310 and S312. The imaging on them is great, and for the money, the '310s are excellent speakers. BTW, where are you planning to purchase these speakers? because if you're planning to get them at Best Buy, their prices are way too high. try bestpriceaudiovideo.com |

I was over at his place this weekend and (as I knew from when I auditioned them myself) I am not at all impressed with how they sound at low volume. But he had them hooked up to a Yamaha 110wpc reciever and when he cranked them way up, I must say they sounded alright. The bass was pretty tight, if not very full, and the mids and highs were not distorted or overly bright. I was pretty impressed, but then again, you don't listen to a system at those volumes in everyday life. (On the other hand, my Denon/Infinity/Polk system sounds very good at low to moderate listening levels, much better than his Yammie/JBL setup.)
So, I'm not really answering the question yet, am I? I would pick the ND310's over the S312's. The Studio series looks much classier (the Northridge series looks cheap IMO) but I now think the ND310's will sound better than the S312's that I've listened to. |
