Paradigm Studio 20 QuestionGlenn Conatser

Paradigm offers a real wood veneer for the reference line. Does this improve the sound by having the wood on the sides or would sticking with the laminate finish be the way to go.

Cheers,
Glenn

when i was researhing the Studio 20s i rarely heard/read anything one way or the other regarding the optional wood siding. During my listening session at the store near me that carried this model i asked about the upgrade to the wood siding model and was told that there was a two month delay for that model because they were only manufactured per order (ie. if one orders the wood siding model their speakers are hand built and require extra time), and the siding added between $100-150 CND to the total price. As for the sonic benefits, i would assume that the cabinet would be slighly more sturdy, but not enough to warrent a 2 month delay and the xtra $$$, i am VERY happy with my 'cherry wood' veneer Studis 20s. you cant go wrong either way.
Stick with the laminateNickG

I have listened to both laminate & veneer and can hear no difference and the folks at the local Paradigm dealer agree. They recomend to their customers NOT to spend the extra $250 for the veneer. I have the Studio 20 Laminates and love them.

But dont settle for the boring and cheap looking 'black' laminate, demand the 'rosewood' laminate instead, IT is SO much classier looking, and coupled with the matching stands you have a very nice looking speaker set. When i was demoing the 20s i had a rosewood set and a black set side-by-side, both on the matching stands, and the difference was huge. good luck and enjoy. if you have any ?s just ask me, i am Paradigm Reference fanatic.
Unfortunately..NickG

Unfortunately if you wanted them sheilded as I did, they only come in black.
