| New speaker company | waVeman Sep 14, 2001 7:08 PM | | <i>After being holed up at home for two days, I finally had to get out and away from the TV. But all during this trip in the back of my mind was the simple and from-the-gut thought that has kept me from getting totally depressed and/or enraged: "You are not going to get away with this."</i> ..................................................................................................................................................... I was at Tweeter last night to check out the new Klipsch RF-7's, and afterwards wandered into the entry-level(?) room. This is where they display Boston Acoustics, Celestion, receivers, etc. Well, quite quickly I noticed these small, nice looking, black-boxed speakers. The large name tag on the front said "Tivoli Designs". This is the same company that builds that cool little table radio (http://tableradio.com/). I wasn't able to give them an extensive listen, but with Soundgarden's <i>Superunknown</i> they weren't too bad. Kind of soft sounding, with solid bass. The largest model had a 6" (not 6.5") woofer in a ported enclosure. All the drivers looked well made. They cost $179 per pair. The salesguy said they just got these in last week. This might explain their not being on Tivoli's website yet. I still keep hoping this company will come out with a stereo receiver using the same design philosophy as their table radio: solid but modern technology; a "no-frills" features array; and that awesome wooden cabinet and rotary tuning dial. Preferably with about 50-75 watts per channel so it can operate most speakers. But it's GOTTA have a remote!!! |
