Rap, R&B, Pop, Hip Hop Speaker Suggestions??Audio Aussie
Nov 27, 2001 1:40 PM
I listen to mainly Rap and R&B. I am looking for 2 channel setup and sub down the road. I am looking at round $700 for the mains. Any suggestions for my music taste?? They need to have a warm sound and none of those piercing highs that penertrate your head. Although I will be adding a sub I would still like them to have some good tight bass. Well if anyone has any suggestions plz let me know. Thx

Cheers

I would look at PSB Image line. I would also look into B&W DM line. I would also suggest Paradigm, but they are a bit brighter than some others, but they do have some good bass.

Good luck

Hey, I'm serious about my answer. You don't need audiophile speakers to listen to rap. A boombox will do. If you were asking about jazz and classical, I would have given you a different answer. I wasn't trying to PYO. Chill out and enjoy the music.

If you are looking for speakers that will handle the boom that pervades hip hop. If so you should take a look at JBL or Cerwin Vega. If your taste is more varied then your choices are wide open. Just remember you can always add a subwoofer to pick the low end.

If you like the thump in your rump, go with JBL's or Cerwin Vega's or you could go with almost any speaker as long as you have a good sub-woofer. You could go cheap on the speaks and spend good money on a Sunfire or Hsu sub. Also DCM makes a good, cheap, ass-kicking speaker that I KNOW from personal experience handles, house, thrash, hip-hop, Old School R&B, Motown, Stax/Volt and have had 3 teenagers trying to blow them unsuccesfully for 6 months.

That's the skinny....

Let me know what you decide.
