is Velodyne FSX-12 a good match w/ maggies? vs. aci Titan?Phil J

I currently have MMGs and Onecall is closing out the FSX-12 for $500. This seems like a fantastic deal, and have heard good things about the Velodyne F series. When I was in school, my roomate had the aci Titan which seemed to blend very well with the MMGs. Will this velodyne perform similarly? The person at Onecall I spoke with didn't recommend this sub for ANY home theater use and said I'd be better off with either the SPL-1000 or SPL-1200. I haven't heard this from anybody else. I want the sub to be as tight as possible for music. I live in an apartment so a great "theater sub" would be useless anyway. For this price is the FSX-12 the best I can do? Is the SPL series more boomy, or similar to the F-series?

Thanks for your help,
Phil

You really need to check out the SVS sub (svsubwoofers.com). I purchased a pair. One of the SVS subs performed better than my Velodyne 18" F1800RII. The two SVS subs together are outstanding.

Performance is equally as good on music and HT.

Phil,

I forgot to mention, I have never had a sub that blended so well with my mains.

Doug is right. The ACI is junk. I tried the ACI, the plastic sides fell off and it wouldn't play loud enough for my mom. Stay with a known winner. Velodyne has the reputation of being the finest subs. Them and REL.

None of the ACI subs have plastic sides. You obviously have never tried one. Go be a bully in someone else's sandbox.

the SV's are amazing subs. You just have to get past their rather unusual looks. They won't be easy to hide, and may not pass the waf.

But they blend perfectly with my mains (not an easy thing to do), and perform just as well with music as ht.

Most musical sub I've ever heard. Do some searches here and over at audioasylum. Read the reviews. The Titan II plays music and will give you the seamless integration you want. Notice that lately the Velos are alwasys being sold WAY below retail. What does that say about real worth and real value? If you have to save a bit, try to find a used Titan II, pretty hard to find, but would certainly be worth it!

Just my opinion, but for MMG's the Titan or the Adire Rava may be a better match. The Titan is known to blend well with ribbons due to it's decidedly rolled-off bass response and extension which may make it a more "musical" and easily integrated sub for the Maggies. The Velo is quite the deal but it's a deep walloping monster. Maybe not the best match for the sweet and airy Maggies.
