Hmmm, I would go for a pair of Paradigm Titans $219 list, and maybe Paradigm PDR8, or 10 even, subwoofer.

You could also go with a pair of the smaller Atoms with the PDR10 sub. I've heard this is a sweet little combo.

Very tough to beat Paradigm, or PSB in this price range. You could check out the PSB IMage or Alpha lines as well. excellent value for the $$$.

Oh, and the B&W DM303, haven't heard this 1 (I have heard the Paradigm's and PSB'S), but it consistently gets rave reviews.

Good luck

I am buying speakers currently too, up to $800 CDN though. Here are my suggestions (lots of research went into these!):

- Acoustic Energy Aegis One ($450 CDN)
- Monitor Audio Bronze 2 ($500 CDN)
- PSB Speakers Image 2B ($450 CDN)
- Totem Mite ($600 CDN)

- Kinima Hi G1 (<a href="http://www.zetagcorp.com">Kinima</a>)

If you can find them, have a look at the Totem, it'll be worth your while! Both Totem, Kinima, and PSB Speakers are Canadian made. I'm proud to say they are still in the running on my list.
The Monitor Audio Bronze 2 are supposed to be great, except I can't find a dealer with decent enough equipment to hear them.
The Acoustic Energy is incredible! Very good value, and superb sound.
Haven't got around to hearing the PSB model yet. Good impressions from them so far.
The Kinima is on its own. I just wanted to show you them. I'm getting a very good deal on them (regularly $1,100 for me, $800 :)...).

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I like the previous suggestions, but I have a little different option... If your music taste is mostly rock/popular music, then you may want to consider some JBLs (?). I am personally into rock, pop, acoustic, techno, rap, oldies (Beatles, etc), just about anything else, and I haven't found anything that will even touch the JBL S310s. I own a pair and I haven't found anything that will beat them. I had a pair of Cerwin Vega LS-10s in this price range, and they are no match for the JBLs. Keep in mind that having a good pair of L/R main speakers is better than having a crappy pair of L/R mains and a crappy subwoofer. In this price range, you will probably not find anything better than the S310s --- trust me, I've listened to a lot of speakers and I can't find anything better for twice the price. The list on the S310s is $760/pair, but you can get them on the net for around $448/pair including shipping. So, as I said before: If your music taste is mostly rock, acoustic, etc, then the JBLs are the best bet in my opinion. Also, buy better main speakers before you buy a crappy subwoofer and mains... you will thank yourself in the long-run! Good luck!
