| Anybody own Monitor Studio 2 and want to discuss ?? | AudioFan Dec 1, 2001 1:24 AM | | My first true speaker (After Bose AM5) was the Monitor Audio Monitor 2. It was unbelievable when i first heard the Monitor 2. I got it for around USD250 in Singapore. Being adventurous, i sold it off and bought all kinds of speakers ie Mission 703, M71, 780, Triangle Titus XS, Tannoy R1, MX2 among others
2 years listening to the other speakers, I realized I had to come back to Monitor Audio. In my opinion, the MA still sound the most pleasing and the amazing mid-range it sings. Recently I decided I had to own the MA again but went up the series and purchased the Studio 2 (Heritage Series) Since then I have only had less than 20 hours listening, they sounded good but I was expecting more since they cost Considerably more than the Monitor 2. Could it be that it requires a break-in ? Will that makes a lot of differences? The dome are metal and stiff so does it means break-in is necessary ? How much diff I wondering, 20 %, 30 % or ? I am very curious and can't wait for it to be so called "broken-in"
Can any Monitor Audio Studio owners share your view here please ? Also, should speaker stands be filled with sand all the way up or partially ?

Also try varies positioning the bring the bass out. It could be lean sounding if you can't bring the bass out. You may consider a better CD player at that time.

How would the sound characteristics change after break-in ? Would the high improve, or is it just the bass?
What would you recommend for a better CD player ? |

I think you make the same mistake that a lot other people do. You bought a pair of speaker that is too good for the rest of your system. The Monitor Audio Studio series is very revealling and it won't hide the flaws of your upstream equipments. The tonal character is on analytical side. The top end of course will be smoother after break-in and soundstage open-up. However, if there is flaw in you source (mostly from CD players), it won't hide. I would recommend at least a smooth sounding mid-price CD player like the Creek 43Mk2 or Rega Planet 2000 as the entry point for this pair of speakers. Other area that you need to look at is the cables and stand. You mentioned that your stand is sandfillable, I suggest you fill the whole stand up. Put a blue-tak between the speakers and the stand will help a little bit as well.

Thanks again. So I supposed my Cd player not quite to it ... ...
My friend said that I have gotten the wrong speakers, saying that the Dynaudio Audience 42 is a better one for my system.
Now that I am not too pleased with the sound(the imaging is weird), i thought I should have auditioned the Dynaudio before decided on the MA. Have you heard the Dynaudio 42 before ? Any comments ?
About the stands, i was afraid to fill it all the way up cos I think it may kill all the bass, right ? |
