question for speaker / sub gurus.......IAmtnbikr

I am no expert by any means! What I would like input on is how to best set up new speakers and a sub. Please note that they are to arrive this next week, so I have NOT had any chance to experiment yet. I got a pair of Klipsch SB-2's and a KSW-12 sub. The receiver I will use is an old Pioneer SX-6, which is only 45 x 2 for power. It has worked fine for many years so far. The room is about 15 x 20, and has no drapes, but is carpeted. This is only used for CD's and some FM at this time, with a possible jump to HT later. Probably much later at that. The smaller speakers are due to the wife wanting to remodel and lose the large / old ones now used. What I would like to know, is it better to run the main speaker outputs to the sub, and run the speakers off the sub. In doing so, I would set the pass to 100 Hz. Or, do I "Y" into the line level outputs that are at the receiver which go the EQ and back to the receiver, and run those to the sub, and run the speakers full range from the receiver as I now do? Will using a 100Hz pass make the smaller speakers sound better if they do not have to deal with the low frequencies? Or, do I just wait and experiment when it all arrives? Also, I have seen some ideas on placing something under the sub, since it wll be sitting on carpet. Any thoughts on that? Thanks for any and all help or opinions!
