Crossover & Tweeter damageLen

I was reading about the Axiom M3Ti's and reallized that these speakers don't have the crossover. I'm fairly ignorant as far as all the technical stuff goes. Maybe I'm talking nonsense, but wouldn't feeding low frequency signal to tweeter actually overload it? I can understand that in some cases you can use natural roll offs to get the desired frequency response, but I still don't get this. Sorry, but anybody can help me understand this?

There is on the tweeter, but not on the woofer.

The tweeter would fail without some high-pass (unless playing at extremely low levels), however if the woofer has a nice smooth rolloff, there is no reason for it to have a xover.

My own EPOS ES11 satellite speakers use no crossover for the
woofer. The excellent Triangle Titus speakers have the same design.

The tweeters have a single capacitor that acts as a 6dB octave
high pass filter and an usually high crossover frequency to protect the tweeters.
Woofers must be specially designed for use without a low pass filter.

I've read a lot of rave reviews of the Axiom M3Ti's but the nearest dealer (in Canada!) does not stock that Axiom model so I've never heard it.

In all of these small speakers the woofer will probably "overload" and sound distorted long before the tweeter does.
Thank you so much! (nt)Len
