Home Theater Direct ?...............LITNING
Sep 14, 2001 7:36 AM
I am shopping for inexpensive speakers for home theater/music use and was wondering what anybody thought of the home theater direct speakers. In particular I am considering the level two 5.1 package. Or would I be better off buying the level three mains and center for now?

Jeffery Former over at HTF. He should be able to tell you which setup would be best for your needs for right now. What is your budget?

level 2, level3, there all mediocre. you can get better stuff for the same price, or a little bit more.

Sorry if that sounds harsh. actually for the price they're okay.

I'm not sure bobby knows exactly what he is talking about. After auditioning tons of speakers for MONTHS, I decided to give the HTD Level Three's a shot. What the hell, they will refund all of your money in 30 days (including shipping) if you don't like them. These speakers are fantastic! I do not believe there is a better speaker out there in this price range, or even close to this price range. Highs are crisp, but not fatiguing. Depth and imaging are great, and the whole setup with the 12" sub ROCKS for movies, and does an excellent job for music as well. Many speakers I came across were great for movies, but were lame for music, or vice versa. The HTDs, IMHO, are a superb all around loudspeaker. Try them, and I don't think that you will be disappointed.

What speakers did you compare the Level III tower speakers to as I am looking at Paradigm Monitor 9 or Reference Studio 20 or 40.

Thanks alot.

Hi Jason,

I did not compare the towers to the Paradigms you mentioned. I looked at Klipsch, some decent sounding Yamahas, JBLs, Polk Audio, Infinity, basically most of your upper middle to lower high end offerings. I have heard great things about Paradigm too, but never gave them a shot. I think the most important thing to do is to let your ears do the deciding for you. Something about the HTDs just clicked for me. In addition to watching movies, I listen to lots of classical music, and the HTDs made me feel like I was listening to many of my CDs for the first time. Good luck!
