| B&W CDM 1 NT vs. 7NT | Phillip Sep 16, 2001 9:19 AM | | Has anyone compared the B&W CDM 1NT to the 7NT. Is it worth the difference in price taking in to account the cost of the B&W speaker stands and possible subwoofer. Which speakers image better. I have a Denon 3802. Thanks |

If you have the money then jump into the 9's. I found that the 9's had better highs and mid then the 1's.
good luck,

While I was demoing the speakers I was looking at the 9NT and 7nt (at the beginning) I like towers more than monitors (I was replacing my 602), but out of curiosity, I listened to the 1NT, I was amazed when we switched back and forth between the 7 and 1, it was the EXACT same sound, but as though someone turned down a small external sub. The 1 sounded much more open than I expected a small cabinet to produce, I was amazed (some say that the 1 images better, I don't agree with that either, they are so close, it was amazing). After this test, I pretty much told myself that the 1 was the one I wanted (much cheaper and I already had 2 subs), but when I brought this up with my wife, she said that cosmetically she liked the 7 better (this was a total surprise to me), but that was fine, for some reason I just like a full range speaker a little bit more, but i can't explain why and since some of audio is "mental" I am happy as can be, but those 1s ARE SWEET!!. btw, I also looked into the 805 (since it was the same price as the 7, and I really think that I could have tealked my wife into it (beautiful speaker), but it wasn't needed, I kept liking the 7, for whatever reason). |

Can;t say whether you'd be better off with the 1NTs and a sub or the 7Nts. One thing is clear though. With either option you will need to upgrade your electronics to get the best out of the speakers. Denon will not get the job done. Think about NAD, Adcom, Arcam or Rotel. Any of these would be a big improvement. |
