ht receiver to go with a/d/s speakersptt660

i am looking for a pro logic II receiver to go with a 5-pack of a/d/s speakers. i have L520 main front's that i bought way back in 1980. i just can't seem to part with them. i still love their sound. i am waiting for a center and two small L310 rears that i purchased online. is anyone out there still using a/d/s? seems i am in the minority since they are mainly into car audio nowadays. i'm going to upgrade from an onkyo two channel receiver i am using now. to the last remaining a/d/s owner's out there.......what's a good pro logic II match for these speakers?

Not sure the specs of your a/d/s but my L8es are 4 ohm nominal and not the last word on efficiency. At volumes, driving the pair would get my 100W HK receiver run on the very warm side.

If your speaks have similar specs, you'll require a quality receiver with some horsepower. You didn't mention a budget but someone here recently mentioned the discontinued Denon 5800 new, for around $1K. The 5800 has a beast of an amp section and should have no problems driving five a/d/s speaks at HT volumes. It is also one fine receiver.

thanks for your response jet! my budget is about 1 grand. those older denon's don't have pro logic II do they? my L520's are 6 ohm nominal, the center is 8 ohm nominal, and the L310 surrounds are 4 ohm nominal. poor ohm matching on my part but a/d/s doesn't give you many options. the 4 ohm speakers are small and have a fairly high sensitivity of 90 db. do i still need a powerhouse amp section? i want the pro logic II feature. i listened to my friend's system in pro logic II and really enjoyed it.

Unfortunatrely not and hence the discounted price. Outside of PL II, it is a very nice receiver.

I'm not up to date on the quality of the new PL II equiped receivers. I do know the new Marantz 7200 PL II receiver received a poor review in S&V Mag so I would look elsewhere. You might just check into the usual suspects such as Denon, Onkyo, Integra and Yamaha. HK does manufacture very nice performing receivers IMO but their reliability record has be spotty in recent history.

If your a/d/s/ are similar to mine, they sound great the harder they're pushed given ample clean power. I would look for a receiver with a quality amp section given the performance capabilities of these speakers.

Good luck,

Jet
