| Replacing the driver in a cheap Quest subwoofer. | Tacoman20 Nov 27, 2001 8:02 PM | | Hello,
Futureshop recently had a Quest 10" 150 watt subwoofer on sale for $200 CDN. It seems decently well-made, except for the paper driver. I never listened to it, but I would assume that it isn't that great of a subwoofer. If I were to replace the paper driver with a better 10" car subwoofer (4 ohms), could this sub be any good? I've already got a Velodyne CT-120 that pleases me very much, but the thought of adding a second subwoofer for really cheap interests me. Would this idea work, or would it be a complete waste of money?
Any thoughts on this subject are greatly appreciated. |

On a technical side, you need to match the driver's impedance. There are technical aspects that Richard Greene could dwelve into that I don't quite understand/remember Save your money and get a good used sub. |

I would seriously consider going to your nearest Costco Canada store and checking out the D-Box David 302 sub, for $299. This thing is well built and has a nice 12-inch driver. D-Box operates out of Quebec and has a website. Just do a search for D-Box subwoofers. My bro has the D-Box David 300 (two generations ago) and it does a tremendous job in a large recreation room. |
