| speaker placement and room acoustis messin me up.. | 3db Nov 28, 2001 5:41 AM | | I own a pair of technic's SB-T200s, dual ported, towers. I had some "play" time last night so I placed these towers on my kid's chairs which raised them off the ground by 13" inches. What a difference in sound that made. The bass which was never boomy just sounded so much smoother and the midrange/highs became more present as opposed to being laidback. So my 1st question is, does anyone know where I can get speaker stands that raise the speakers 12-14" inches off the floor? The 2nd thing I noticed is that the sweet spot of the speaker seemed to move from middle left to center after passing a certain volume level. I suspect its a placement issue because the entertainment center which is a floor to ceiling corner unit sits about a foot behind the left speaker. The right speaker doesn't have anything directly behind it. I'll have to scan in my room layout to see what I'm dealing with. |

I think I smell a DIY project. Make some stands yourself. It'll be fun!

You're right to suspect the room, but let me throw something else in the mix. The volume control on your pre-amp may have audible channel-matching errors. Many do. Any easy way to check for this is to hook a voltmeter up to it. |

My eldest daughter also noticed a big change in sound from raising them off the floor. About the 2nd point, I only noticed this on one CD,it just happened to be my most recent aquisition, Ella Fitgerald and Duke Ellington. Nothing but voice and piano. Its the voice that seemed to move from near middle left to the middle. I put on U2 latest release, "Elevation" and the vocals are smack dab in the middle regardless of volume postition. |
