| warm sounding speakers | drew5 Nov 27, 2001 8:15 PM | | I'm trying to find a pair of floor standing speakers that suit my taste in sound. I've heard a lot of speakers in my quest that sound very detailed but also sound very thin and cold. I'm looking for a detailed but also a full rich sound. $1000-1500. I listen to just about any type of music at one time or another, but mostly deep house and house music.
Any suggestions would be helpfull. |

In addition, check out the Dynaudio Audience line (62s and 72s) which are quite detailed with a smooth mid band. The Danes have a combination of detail and fullness (no listener fatigue) which makes them tough to beat in their price range, IMO.
Good luck with your search.

| I'll third the Vienna Acoustics | BillB Nov 28, 2001 9:22 AM | | Previously I'd lived with NHT SuperTwos for about 2 years, SuperOnes for about two years prior to that, so I was used to a smooth clean sound, though somewhat thin in the bass. The SuperTwo's had extension down to about 35Hz but there wasn't much weight to it. When I decided to move the NHT's to the HT-only system and put together a dedicated music system, I opted to go for an even smoother, richer sound. I picked the Vienna Acoustics Mozarts to pair with my NAD Integrated over B&W, NHT, Paradigm Studio, Monitor Audio, Sonus Faber, and Energy. They just sounded "right" every time I listened to them, I found myself not wanting to get up and leave as well as wishing I had access to my entire CD collections. They were one of those speakers that, once I got them home, I wanted to see what EVERYTHING sounded like through them.
2 1/2 months later, I'm enjoying them immensly. The Bachs are right in your price range, come with a finish that has a very high WAF, and, if bought from Tweeter, can be traded up for the Mozarts or Beethoven in a year's time.
Good Luck!

| ACI Opals | newjd Nov 28, 2001 5:58 AM | | Would be perfect for you. To me, they are a tad on the overly warm side, but very musical. Excellent image, very dynamic. I think they work best with a fair amount of power, they can take it and it really opens them up. They've gotten great reviews, are beautiful to behold, (the ones I heard were Rosewood). They're solidly under $1000 and you can try them for yourself. |
| ACI Opals - There you go again:( | Tommy Nov 28, 2001 1:41 PM | | Everytime someone asks for any advice one of you three ACI fans in the whole world jumps up and says ACI!!!!! Get over it, plastic junk. Get a life. There is real hi-end to be had. Pretty funny, I cruise the whole net and see about the same 3 of you clowns talking ACI smack all the time. The three company owners? |
| Troll Alert...AGAIN!!! | Brian Bunge Nov 29, 2001 8:07 AM | | Tommy, No, the "funny" thing is you calling ACI speakers "plastic junk"! BTW, the Titan II LE's use solid hardwood; not plastic! You obviously have nothing constructive to add the any of these threads. The owner and Chief Designer for ACI is Mike Dzurko. If you have issues with any of his speakers and truly think they are junk (I'd bet you've never seen a pair in person much less heard them) then why don't you send him a personal email and tell him so. While you're at it, add some CONSTRUCTIVE advice on ways to improve them. You can email him personally at miked@audioc.com. While you're at it, feel free to copy me on that email as well. My address is bbunge@bellsouth.net. Let's see if you've got the balls to back up your statements and include your full name. Mine is below. It's time to put up or shut up! If we hear nothing, I'm assuming you're the troll you appear to be. Brian Bunge P.S. There obviously aren't any moderators on this board. Either that or they could care less about the calibre of posts they allow. |
| Brian!!!! Trolling...AGAIN!!! | Tommy Nov 29, 2001 8:46 AM | | How do you know their hardwood? Their plastic you fool. Or maybe you r on the payroll with mr JD.?!!!!!! HA!!!! I can use exclamation points to much to!!!!! Maybe you are Mike Bzerko ur self! That is why you want me to Email u!!! Maybe I will!!!This forum is fun!!!! |
| Brian!!!! Trolling...AGAIN!!! | Azuth Nov 29, 2001 9:11 AM | | The reason you only see three people recommending their speakers is because the rest of the ACI owners are satisfied enough with their purchase that they see no need to visit the speakers forum again. My own interest in this forum has dwindled since I got my sub. The only reason I check here anymore is to learn about new products from ACI and it looks like they've got some great things in the works.
And FYI, one of the reasons I kept my Sapphires is BECAUSE of the quality materials they are made from.
Wouldnt you have more fun making jokes about nOrh anyway? |
| Brian!!!! Trolling...AGAIN!!! | Brian Bunge Nov 29, 2001 10:13 AM | | I think it really just comes down to some of us being really happy with the products and customer service that ACI provides. Because of this, we want to turn others on to ACI as well. Nothing wrong with that. Of course, all the folks that praised nOrh got bashed for no reason as well. If I hadn't found out about ACI I imagine I'd still be buying PSB, which are also excellent speakers. Brian Bunge P.S. Looks like Tommy isn't willing to put his money where his mouth is. He even resorts to making fun of one's name. Not too surprising. I guess he'll grow up some day. |

| Vienna Bach, or Haydn's with a sub! (nt) | Homer Nov 28, 2001 5:43 PM | | |
| re: warm sounding speakers | Jammer Nov 28, 2001 9:02 PM | | I'd go with the Vienna Acoustics myself... way, way nice. I'm not sure I'd describe them as warmish sounding speakers, but rather as neutral speakers. They're not overly warm, but not thin or cold. They have pleanty of high-end extension, but are not harsh or bright. They're pleanty detailed, without being overly analytical. Their bass is fast, tight, and musical - though not as deep or powerful as some might want. They just sound so glorious when playing music, and they can outfit a home theater as well (though you'll definately need a sub for that). They're highly dynamic speakers, and can go from a mouse whisper to a lions roar like nothing else other than electrostatics. Speed baby, they've got speed and rhythm down pat.
I recently had the opportunity to hear two of my favorite artists live (Lyle Lovett and Holly Cole). Of course, I immediately ran out and listened to as many brands of speakers as I could get my hands on (B&W, NHT, KEF, Definitive Technology, Martin-Logan, Klipsch, Sonus Faber, Revel, Monitor Audio, Paradigm Reference, Energy, Boston Acoustics, Snell, and Infinity just to name the ones that stick in my mind). There were several I thought sounded quite good, and I'd even have to admit that there were some speakers that did one thing (mid-range transparency, bass impact or depth, etc.) better than the Vienna's... but NONE that did everything as well. And NONE that sounded as close to what I'd just heard at the concerts. The mid-range of these speakers is KILLER! It's just so smooth and tonaly neutral that it makes the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up and shiver.
1st choice - Mozart's, around $2,400 new.
2nd choice - Hayden's and a good sub (NHT?), around $1,800.
3rd choice - Bach's, $1,500 new. |
