| Speaker Recommendations for Carver front end. | freediver Nov 28, 2001 5:42 PM | | HELP!!!I am in the process of replaceing my OLD home theater equipment & have already purchased a Philips "DVD-Q50" & the new Carver "C1000A"receiver.My room is very small(13'long x 8'6" wide with a 7'10" ceiling) & As this is my only system it must handle music, movies & concert dvd's equally well.Front speakers should be floorstanders & since the room is small they must work fairly close to the back & side walls.Music & concert dvd taste include just about everything EXCEPT country & opera.Movie tastes mostly sci-fi & action. As to budget I'm looking at about $3500.00 max for the fronts alone.I look forward to any & all responses. Thanks! |

Otherwise, I'd check out B&W 600 series.
Also, you might want to check out www.hometheaterdirect.com, but read the reviews on this site first.
Nice choice on the amp, I'm thinking about getting it myself. |

I'm no expert, but here's my opinion of what I'd doo in similar circumstances.
If you mean sat-sub, the first place I would look in your situation would be M&K, then Mordant-Short. If you mean 2 full range speakers and no sub I would look first at the smallest Ohm Walsh-types, then the new CSW floorstanders, and also Definitive Technology fllorstanders with built in powered subs.
AT THE SAME TIME -- given the size of your room and the likelyhood that any speaker will have some unfortunate interaction with the walls -- you should consider spending some of your speaker budget on acoustic treatment (check www.echobusters.com and www.tubetrap.com). Think of this as an integral part of our speaker system and not just a tweek. |
