I purchased a pair of Paradigm Studios 40 and was wondering to complete my surround system what would be a good center speaker and a good sub. And is the yamaha rx-v2200 a good receiver to puch those speakers....Any other suggestion would be greatly welcomed...

Thanks
Jay

The Studio 40s are relatively forgiving speakers (less so than the Monitor series, but you still get notably better performance), and I use them with a RX-V800, and have gotten pretty good results. The V2200 should be fine. For the center speaker, get the matching Studio CC -- it's a no-brainer. It's imperative that you voice match the speakers up front, and the Studio CC uses the same midrange/bass drivers and tweeter as the Studio 40. I've experimented with nonmatching centers, and they can destroy the imaging if the tonal characteristics are sufficiently different. I've not really scoped out the subs yet, but the most frequently recommended subs on the HT forums seems to be the SVS subs. I hear good things about the Paradigm Servo models as well, but those are very pricey.

I have the RXV 2200 with the Studio 60's and I just can't stand the sound. I wonder if there is something defective about my 2200? The upper midrange and lower treble just kills everyones ears. What sort of CD player do you have connected to it?

Hello,

I am going to purchase the Paradigm Studio 20s. I suspect the Studio40s are similar to the Studio 20s. I have listened to five different receivers with the Paradigm line. My experience has been that the receiver can make a big difference.

1) and 2) Arcam AVR100 [studio 20s] and AVR200 [with mini-monitors] - excellent detail, good clariy -- recommend

3) Yamaha RX-V3000 [mini-monitors]- full, broad sound...sounded artificial to me.

4) Denon 3802 [Studio 20] - reserved, artificial

5) Rotel V972 [Studio 20] - excellent detail, good clarity. This is what I currently plan to purchase.

I recommend that you listen to the receiver with the Studio 20s or something comparable. Each receiver will have a different sound.

Cheers,
JO
