Jan 18, 2002 1:48 PM | | I recently purchased some Paradigm Atoms, Micros, and CC100 center on ebay, all are about 5 yrs old. During the shipping the magnet on the woofer of one Micro broke off(tweeter still works). The center chanel works fine but the one of the the Atoms pops when bass played through them. The seller said I could return them and get my money back. Here is what I'm looking for:
I read in an old review the Atoms use a Vifa tweeter, any chance they use a Vifa woofer also? If so, would any of the Vifa woofers (or any other) on www.partsexpress.com, or any other place, match well. I plan on keeping the center since I just bought the Titans from another seller on ebay(hope shipping doesn't kill these). Should I bother replacing the woofer on the speakers and get a partial refund or should I return them(minus the center). Also does anyone know anything about the CC100, is it anything similar to the CC150 or CC170?
I couldn't find a number on Paradigm website but I emailed them a question on what it would cost to replace the woofers. Still waiting on a reply.

Also take a look at the frames of the Vifa woofers and the woofers you have, they should look pretty similar...
The woofers are probably popping because they simply can't handle the amount of bass you want them too....just like you can bottom a Adire Temptest in a vented box below tuning frequency probably without much difficulty.
Otherwise, get your money back, and get some really nice DIY speakers:

The "normal" version I linked to is very well known for it's very clear midrange reproduction, VERY.
Hmmm....it could be because maybe one has had been exposed to so much power that the voice coil glue melted and shifted the voice coils alignment so that it might be hitting the surround magnet or pole piece....or it could be that maybe the cabinet has developed a slight leak (like near the push in terminals) and the woofer stroke much further than it's designed to/normally does? |
