| E-V FOUR A's | bartter Jan 18, 2002 9:43 PM | | can anyone tell me how old these speakers can be? |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | Bob Marker Jan 19, 2002 3:09 PM | | bartter: I believe the Electro-Voice 4s were manufactured in the mid 1960s. I purchased a new pair of EV 2s (similar to the 4s but two-way rather than three) back in 1965. Not sure when these speakers were discontinued but I think it was before 1970. Hope this helps answer your question. Bob |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | richard m Jan 19, 2002 8:21 PM | | Is there a difference between a 'four a' and plain old 'four?' I recently purchased a pair of the latter. |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | Bob Marker Jan 19, 2002 9:13 PM | | I'm not sure if there is a difference. Am I correct in my recollection that the 4s had a 12' woofer, a midrange horn, and a cone tweeter? |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | bartter Jan 19, 2002 10:36 PM | | my speakers have a 12"woofer,6"midrange cone and a 3" tweeter with a total handling power of 60 watts.they are also a closed box. |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | Bob Marker Jan 20, 2002 8:28 AM | | Maybe the cone mirange (rather than the horn) is the difference between the 4 and 4a. BTW, how do you like the sound of your speakers? I enjoyed the EV 2s while I owned them (I switched to KLH 6s in 1969) but its been a lot of years ago and I don't know how they would stack up against modern speakers of modest price. |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | bartter Jan 20, 2002 10:01 AM | | I like them.they have been rebuilt once and take all my 80 watt pioneer can give them.my other speakers are ess amt's and the e-v four a's sound almost as good.as far as todays speakers I think they hold up pretty good.some day I would like to take all four to a hifi store and find how good they really do sound to the new ones for sale today. |
| re: E-V FOUR A's | richard m Jan 21, 2002 8:31 PM | | My fours have a twelve inch woofer, 5 1/4" midrange (i think) and a large UHF horn driver. Not exactly the most pleasant sounding speaker for the music I listen to but I only paid $7.50CDN for the pair. I prefer my KLH model fives. One of these days I think I might invest in something new. |
