5 channel audio using NHT's 2.9amith17

I want to extend my stereo system (NHT 2.9s) to a 5 channel audio system? I don't think the 2.9s can act like a center speaker (because of their angled front).
What do you recommend?

I have an all-NHT HT system, using the 1.5's all around, a SubOne and an AudioCenter One. I believe that the Audio Center Two would be the best match for the 2.9's. The Audio Center One and Two use the same tweeter as the 1.5 and the 2.9, and are timbre matched with them. The Two has larger main drivers, and goes lower. It's also larger, so check space constraints if the center channel needs to fit into a defined space - I had to go with the smaller Audio Center One because of that.

NHT may be phasing these out - I don't see them on their web page. Crutchfield has them for $649, and is an authorized NHT dealer. Likely cheaper elsewhere on the web if you look around, but no NHT warranty. Crutchfield is great about returns, and will even pay return shipping if you don't like them.

Hope this helps.

thanks.

AudioCenter 2 seems like the only solution. Although I was looking for a full range speaker (like the 2.9) because I think the new formats (DVD-A / SACD) will use the center channel at full range and like it used today in movies, mainly for dialogues.
NHT is indeed phasing out all these speakers (1.5,2.5i,2.9,3.3,AC-1,AC-2) their new line will be the evolution.

I think you are needlessly worrying about a full-range center channel speaker. Running a full size/floor-standing center channel is going to so EXTREMELY rare that it would be suicidal for a software company to mix their CD's for that kind of market. It simply would not exist. I also think that rear-channel 2.9's would be vast over-kill. You can pick up 1.5i's for $300 and 2.5i's for $600 to $750 NEW now and either would do just fine...and not take over your room like five 2.9's would. NHT is (sadly) closing out the superb Music series and you can get them for 1/2 off in many cases. I have seen the VT-2.4's for $1000 at 6th Avenue Electronics, for example.

For your center channel just get an AC-1 or AC-2. I would wait, though, these are not being heavily discounted quite yet.

My own dream system is to add a pair of 3.3's at 1/2 off to complement my 2.5i's. Nirvana for sure.

Once again, for those who may not know but are into NHT products:......

NHT (Recoton) has an outlet store in Orlando, FL. Prices are 50% or less of retail cost. Inventory varies, but covers the full lines up to the 3.3 or the VT3 ($2499 out the door).

A friend picked up the VT2.4's at X-mas for $799. With them dropping pretty much all the current line, there should be some good stuff coming in soon.
