| Subwoofers for the poor | swdon60 Mar 29, 2002 4:55 PM | | I am seeking a subwoofer for my system. Unfortunately I am not a rich man. I am trying to stay in the 150.00 to 200.00 area. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Also, If anyone has a good subwoofer they are not using I am not averse to having a used one. (Not used up one)
You can email me at swdon60@plexi.com
Thank you everybody! |
| Best Buy will have the Sony WM-40 | yogo Mar 29, 2002 5:33 PM | | good sub for the price |
| re: Subwoofers for the poor | Chris009 Mar 29, 2002 9:55 PM | | I recommend an Acoustic Research S108PS...i am using one myself... It's an 8 inch downfiring powered sub...i think J&R sells it for less than 150. Check it out |
| re: Subwoofers for the poor | FooF Mar 30, 2002 4:11 PM | | if you want powerful bass, sony sa-wm40 is definately the best choice. 12 inch 120 watt RMS amp. check the reviews on this site. at the price it is, i dont think you would ever be dissapointed. putting some pillow stuffing (polyfill from wal-mart) inside will make the bass tighter and faster also. |
| Agreed | Bryan Apr 1, 2002 9:34 AM | | For a new sub, the SA-WM40 is about as good as it gets. If you have something readily available to power it with and power tools handy, look into a DIY passive sub. Right now I am contemplating using my old SVS 20-39 driver (made by T.C. Sounds) in a sealed design based off either the Adire Audio Tempest or ACI Titan II. |
| BEST PREFORMACE VS. PRICE | Night Wolf Apr 1, 2002 7:24 PM | | KLH ASW-10120
its a 10" downfireing 120watt sub, at best buy for $139, very powerful and puncy bass, a real sub |
| BEST PREFORMACE VS. PRICE | TheAmazingJosh Apr 1, 2002 10:41 PM | | Stay away from KLH at all costs. KLH = garbage. |
| Agreed with the sub | Bryan Apr 2, 2002 7:09 AM | | But overall KLH is good for the price but you get what you pay for. Their sub is horrendous. Some of their speakers, on the other hand, are good. But they are no where close to being in the same league as B&W, Paradigm, etc.
Another thing you may consider doing is getting a used SA-WM40 and replacing the driver with a used SVS one (should run around $40+ shipping). One of the guys at HTF did that with excellent results. |
| Kloss, post Kloss. . . | pragmatist Apr 2, 2002 2:22 PM | | When Henry L. Kloss(say his initials backwards) ran it, they made good speakers.
Then , he left and developed the advents. |
