| Floor Standing Speakers.....hmmm | Studly Mar 31, 2002 7:01 PM | | I have been recently been scanning for floor standers, but have soon realized that these puppies (I think) are the meat of the price package. I am trying to find really cool floor standers for under 800 bones (preferably 700 - but I think I might be able to negotiate) but have found some resistance.
The JBL s412p pair caught my eye, the Acoustic Research AR-9 pair caught my eye, Klipsch's RP-3, RP-5, RF-5, and RF-7 pairs all caught my eye but my checkbook just can't take this if I'm going to commit to one of these impressive pairs.
Any suggestions (were the speakers I listed cheesey - I'm kinda new to the speaker world)??
Thanks |

I have the monitor 3s ("bookshelf") and they are great for the price. The nines have two eight inch woofers and a 1.25 titanium dome tweeter. you should be able to pick up a pair for around your price point. if you want to spend a little more you might be able to pick up something from their studio series(although not a floorstander). |

| Try these | 3db Apr 1, 2002 11:32 AM | | PSB Image 5Ts for $749. |
| or these | 3db Apr 1, 2002 11:36 AM | | Axiom M60's |
| I second the Axioms | Rhino Apr 2, 2002 7:16 PM | | A friend has these identical speakers and they some of the nicest sounding speakers I've ever heard. Go to their website and read some of the reviews on the Axioms, and I think you'll be convinced. I've got Paradigms that cost 4 times what the Axioms did, but if I had the chance to do it over I'd get the Axioms instead. I love the Paradigms, they're terrific speakers, but the Axioms are seriously THAT good. |
| re: Floor Standing Speakers.....hmmm | Night Wolf Apr 1, 2002 7:09 PM | | JBL ND310's
they are $600/pair speakers, but because JBL iscoming out with the new model (black drivers instead of gold) JandR.com has them for $150 each ($300 for the pair) and FREE shipping
$300, these speakers are great, i have a pair and i love them, you should pick them up |

| How about... | spacedeckman Apr 8, 2002 6:27 PM | | Energy C5. Like $750 list. Much more listenable than the Klipsch. Not familiar with that JBL, but haven't liked much from them the past few years. S38 wasn't bad, but tweeter was pretty tizzy and lacked detail. Haven't like much of anything from AR for so long I can't remember. Acoustic Energy's Aegis 3 is about $700, and I like that one a lot.
I can't think of anything else right now, but there are more out there. Check out PSB. |
