Help with Boston Acoustics VR500 subwooferleafeaterx
Apr 1, 2002 9:04 PM
Hi, my name is Mark Bourjaily. I purchased this particular subwoofer from an authorized dealer a couple of years ago. I noticed recently that it isn't working properly. Namely when it is plugged in and turned on, all it does is make the buzzing sound as if there were a constant source, like bass from a cd or something. The only time it stops is when the line-in cables are pulled out(monster cables, plugged into a y-split so it goes from pre-out ->y->L and R). It makes this sound if those cables are in regardless of whether or not the receiver is plugged in, turned on, or playing something. The subwoofer can be completely unplugged, but turned on and have these two cables in thus it makes the sound. If however, I wiggle the cables, and they are loose going into the L plug then it either continues to make the buzzing sound or it makes no sound at all. I have tried this with the 2 receivers and none at all. Same problem at all times. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi.
It seems to be a ground-loop problem. Check if your sub shares the same ground than the rest of the equipment. This is important not only to quality sound, but to equipment (and of course personal) safety.
Check cable negative conductor continuity also. Particularly at the point you move and cause buzzing stop.

Regards.
Marcelo.

I appreciate your help, but I have no idea what it means or what I should do. I am a beginner at this. Should I use different sockets in the wall or different shock protectors what? thanks

Hi.
Use the same wall outlet (socket) but get sure it has the third prong which is the ground connection.

Good luck.
Marcelo.
