no enclosure sub for car?notraut4me

Sorry if this is the wrong board, but I didn't see one for car audio.
I'm looking for 8" subs that don't require an enclosure. Can anyone tell me what they are called and maybe make some recommendations?

Thanks

Infinite baffle subs, also sometimes called free air subs by a very few manufacturers. Just about every manufacturer has this type of sub available. Their is a good selection at crutchfield.com, howver their prices are high. Once you think you have found a sub that you want...search for that model number on google.com and check out various retailers for the lowest price.

I can not recommend these 'free-air' subs, as they will be very inefficient, and very limited maximum spl capability. though they are considered infinite baffle, they are not really since the relatively small volume in a car trunk is not really significant, in this respect. Their is a benefit to 'boxless' subs in hifi, but again this is not the case in this circumstance and will not be elaborated upon in this discussion.

Their are several low cost enclosures available, or if space is a concern, you can have a custom enclosure built to integrate into the car seamlessly.
