Enclosure for POLK speakersramana
Apr 3, 2002 1:00 AM
Hi folks,,

I had Polk RT400 floor standing and CS245i center channel speakers. I moved recently to my home town, and in the movement..the boxes got completely damaged! My speakers (tweeters and woofers) are safe, as are the filters. I would like to know how can i rebuild a good speaker enclosure for both front and center channel speakers using the speakers units and filters I have.

Also, the specs say the center channel speaker units are magnetically shielded. So do I need to provide any xtrastuff to the enclosure?

Any help is appreciated.

Ramana

I would first see if I could repair the speaker cabinets that are damaged. If I could not, then I would contact Polk to find out what it would cost to buy new cabinets from them. If they would not sell me new cabinets or if they were too expensive, I would build my own speaker cabinets as close to the original ones as possible. The design for those drivers with that crossover was for a cabinet exactly like the original one. So you would want to carefully measure the original cabinets and look carefully at how they were constructed (e.g., thickness and type of material for sides, internal bracing, etc.).
