Wharfedale Powercube PC-8 subwoofer...anyone uses it?FreeFall

I just bought this wharfedale moviestar 40+ home theater speakers. This is my first HT speakers and includes Powercube PC-8 Subwoofer. Currently i am pleased with the modus satellites' performance but with the subwoofer(PC-8), since it's my first sub, i cannot tell how good this really is. I hope i can hear from someone who also uses these speakers and tell me how they feel about it. Thanks very much for reply.

Can you crank your system to the limits you like and not hear distortion in the sub? What are the specs on the sub? If it is an 8" with a fairly small amp, don't expect it to do miracles. We need reference for comments. How large is your room, do you use it for movies, etc?

i am using Marantz SR4200 as my AV receiver. And i setup my home theater in my bed room. It's kinda small (10x15 ft). I am having a bit of a problem balancing out the bass actually. Well, at very very high volume, i start to hear some distortion on subwoofer. I also use it both fo movies and music. On music, i guess i can't ask more for my satellite speakers (modus) as though it's quite small, it produces good sound. While my subwoofer is kinda strong on STEREO mode, as i hear vibrating sounds from it. However, on movies, specially a Dolby Digital, the sound is so good. The only problem is the bass is a bit weak (flat) as my friends commented. If i try to increase the sub's volume, it becomes better, but i start to hear some vibrating sound from the bass.

You may want to try calibrating your speakers and the sub with a calibration dvd, such as Avia or Video Essentials. That should help. You also may need to get a new sub, such as the Adire Audio Rava and that should be a night and day difference opposed to what you have now.

oh thanks, i never thought of a calibration DVD before. As i am actually new to these kinds of stuff (home theaters). But, since my speakers are new, i am not likely to buy another subwoofer for now. But from your comment, does it mean PC-8 wharfedale subs are not as good compared to other brands?
