| Second hand speaker B&W CC6 question | franciswong Jul 23, 2002 3:51 PM | | Hey there
I recently purchased a B&W CC6 (original series) centre speaker second-hand. It looks in good nick, no scratches etc, but I noticed three tiny marks on the metal tweeter - are these of any relevance? Also, when I push the smallish drivers in gently with one finger there's a slight scraping noise, although it isn't there if you press equally on the driver with two figers.
The speaker seems to perform fine, just wondering if the above mentioned things are anything to worry about, or warrant my sending it back.
Thanks!
Regards,

| Chances are.... | Debbi Jul 24, 2002 2:28 PM | | you are getting that scraping sound when you push in the driver is because it is not a flat surface and when you push, there is lateral movement. This would happen with most speakers. When the same cone produces music, the movements are super fast and front to back.Having said that...manipulating the cones by hand is kind of like poking yourself in the eye to see if there is a problem...not adviseable. If there was a problem, chances are you would hear it. The B & W is a quality full range speaker. To better test the driver, I would choose material with heavy bass content, change the speaker center to large (temporarilly) and gradually increase the volume. For the tweeter, I might do the same using the test button (which produces white noise-hiss) while keeping my ear close to the unit.If there is no rasping or other anomaly visa vis the other speakers, chances are things are fine. By the way, I also closely examin every speaker I buy and have yet to find one that did not have some blemish.I own 10 Klipsh speakers of various descriptions and the one that failed was the best looking of the bunch....go figure. |
