| B&W 604S3 and Dynaudio Audience 72 | jonaB Jul 27, 2002 7:02 PM | | Hi,
Just wondering how you guys view the B&W 604S3 and Dynaudio Audience 72 main speakers? Personally I think Dynaudio is a bit too soft and not very distinct on sounds while B&W is sharp but a bit on the noisy side. What is your opinions on these two in comparason? Do you think B&W 604S3 for the front, 602.5S3 for the back and LC600 for center is overkill? Friends tell me I can use any speaker for the back since all it does is special effects. What do you think? BTW, the price I received is 604S3=$639ea, 602.5S3=315ea and LC600S3 449ea all tax included. Is this any good? Thanks! |

I have nothing but good things to say about B&W. The CDM series is a tremendous line of speakers. I also had a lengthy listen to Nautilus 804 when deciding to upgrade. I always found B&W to be more natural and realistic sounding than most speakers including Paradigm, PSB, Definitive Tech, etc. I liked the top end airiness that the CDM line provided. Good bass response, B&W covers the whole spectrum more realistically than most. However, I was introduced to Dynaudio, and right away I knew these were the speakers for me. The difference between the 2 is that Dynaudio's tweeter is much more refined and a bit more smooth, but it still retains all that top end airiness that I liked with B&W so much, and is more detailed. Listening to Dynaudio I can close my eyes and get a much more detailed image of the soundstage in front of me. Imaging is the best I've heard, these speakers simply disappear completely, and that's just about the best compliment I can give Dynaudio. The sweet sound of Miles Davis' horn, and that soulful sound of David Sanborn's sax is just so much more sweet, and dynamic, yet never tizzy or bright, that you can just feel it. Literally. I can't say enough about Dynaudio. The best way to describe the difference is that listening to B&W the music jumps out and grabs your attention, but through the Dynaudio, the music sort of oozes out and surrounds you, and draws you in. I find Dynaudio to be smoother overall than B&W. Both are excellent speakers, with distinctly different sounds. It all comes down to which you prefer. I actually ended up picking the Dynaudio 82's over Nautilus 804.............. Just my input, have fun! BK |
